"You there! Can I interest you in a juicy Ronto Wrap? Best in this quadrant!"
―8D-J8 offers a Ronto Wrap to Remex Io[8]

The Ronto Wrap was a sandwich made from ronto meat served in a flat piece of bread called a ronto wrapper and topped with slaw and Clutch Sauce or emulsauce. Around 232 BBY, the Jedi Kai Brightstar, Nubs, and Celesta Kami enjoyed Ronto Wraps after lightsaber training. In 229 BBY, the pirate Zyle Keem stuffed Ronto Wraps into their leather duster, and before around 10 BBY, Deland Tyerell dropped a Ronto Wrap while evading security droids in a restricted area on the planet Malastare, with the racer Volo Bolus giving him theirs, which he also dropped shortly after. Around 1 ABY, while aboard the Halcyon starcruiser, the Imperial General Kardan consumed a platter of food that contained three of the wraps.

In 34 ABY, they were available at podracing fanatic Bakkar's Ronto Roasters in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu and were cooked by the pitmaster droid 8D-J8. The same year, the mechanic Salju and Resistance spy Vi Moradi both ordered Ronto Wraps while the former gave the latter a tour of the outpost. 8D-J8 once offered a Ronto Wrap to the Clawdite Remex Io, who turned it down, and a droid repair technician consumed some of the wraps after saving the bartender Seezelslak from a First Order re-education facility.

Description

"Now let's hear it from one of our sponsors, Ronto Roasters. Their Ronto meat can't be beat!"
"Feel the heat and grab some meat at Ronto Roasters. Voted the best grill on Batuu."

The Ronto Wrap was the best-selling[4] sandwich available at Ronto Roasters, a restaurant owned by the podracing fanatic Bakkar, in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu,[3] along with other popular destinations.[2] It contained two tender cuts of ronto meat that had the tough skin removed, and the meat was then cooked by the pitmaster droid 8D-J8 on a grill heated by a podracer engine. The two cuts, a link along with chopped meat underneath, were topped with slaw and Clutch Sauce, Bakkar's signature smoky and spicy sauce,[3] and the filling was served in a flatbread called a ronto wrapper. Bakkar also included a special spice blend that was a family secret.[4] There was also a breakfast version of the dish called the Ronto Morning Wrap and a meat-free Ronto-less Garden Wrap. All three versions were safe for humans to consume,[1] with the Garden Wrap edible by Pantorans[6] and Ronto Wraps themselves by Zabraks, Artiodacs,[7] Aleena,[5] Pooba,[6] and member's of the podracer Volo Bolus' species.[5]

Strono Tuggs, the chef at the neighboring Tuggs' Grub mobile eatery parked in Docking Bay 7 Food and Cargo, also had a version of the Ronto Wrap. The Artiodac willingly admitted that his version was not as good as Bakkar's, but he claimed that the difference was hardly noticeable if the wrap was smothered in enough emulsauce.[4]

History

The High Republic

Brightstar, Nubs, Kami, and Solay enjoy Ronto Wraps and a Ronto-less Garden Wrap after training.

After lightsaber training on Batuu[6] in 232 BBY,[11] the Jedi Kai Brightstar, Nubs, and Celesta Kami were hungry and acquired Ronto Wraps, while their peer Lys Solay ate a Ronto-less Garden Wrap. The group visited the Creature Stall in the Black Spire Outpost Market, where they finished their wraps.[6] Between 232 and 230 BBY,[12] the Jedi returned to Batuu to deliver a package to Jedi Master Carver Drow. After initially losing the package, the trio and their droid friends Gigi, Dozer, and Beepers delivered the package to Drow while the Master was eating a Ronto Wrap.[13]

In 229 BBY,[14] while on a Nihil ship patrolling the Stormwall hyperspace barrier, the fourteen-year-old pirate Zyle Keem stuffed packaged Ronto Wraps into their leather duster to take to the planet Valo.[7] The following year,[15] three Jedi younglings came across the dining establishment Marl's Good Enough Eats on the planet Palagosal. As they traversed the vandalized diner, the youngling Jamil Sollis stepped on some rotten food, musing that it may have been a Ronto Wrap.[16]

Reign of the Empire

"Just a little bit farther. I guarantee you it's a fantastic lunch spot."
"Easy for you to say...you still have your Ronto Wrap."
"Here, take min...you earned it.

Deland Tyerell drops a Ronto Wrap while being chased by security droids on Malastare.

Months prior to their race on Batuu around 10 BBY,[17] racers Volo Bolus,[5] Pyya Bocc,[18] and Deland Tyerell—son of the late podracer Ratts Tyerell—were racing on their speeders through a restricted area in the outskirts of the Industrial Sector on the[5] Mid Rim planet[19] Malastare on their way to a photo destination. Using the restricted area as a shortcut, they alerted three security droids to their presence and were pursued, with the droids opening fire. During the chase, Tyerell dropped a Ronto Wrap, and it struck one of the droids, compromising its visual acuity. The three managed to escape capture by the droids and reach their destination, with Bolus claiming it was the perfect lunch spot and Tyerell stating that was easy for them to say since they still had their Ronto Wrap. The racer offered theirs to Tyerell, stating he had earned it. Then, as Tyerell ate his new wrap, Bocc revealed she had a fatal illness, causing the Aleena to drop the second wrap in shock.[5] Around 1 ABY,[20] during the Galactic Civil War, General Kardan of the Galactic Empire gorged on a platter that included three Ronto Wraps while aboard the commandeered pleasure starcruiser known as the Halcyon.[21]

In 34 ABY,[22] during the war between the First Order and the Resistance, the local mechanic Salju took the Resistance spy Vi Moradi on a tour of Black Spire Outpost, during which they stopped at Ronto Roasters and each ordered a Ronto Wrap.[10] After the arrival of the First Order on Batuu, 8D-J8, along with an astromech droid, offered a Ronto Wrap to the Clawdite Remex Io. Despite the droid claiming they were both juicy and the best in the quadrant, the criminal was unimpressed and declined the offer.[8] During the First Order's occupation of Batuu[4] in the same year,[23] Tuggs included his personal recipe for the Ronto Wrap in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.[4] In that time,[24] the adventurer Eloc Throno mentioned the Ronto Wrap in his book Traveler's Guide to Batuu.[3] Also during the occupation, a droid repair technician consumed Ronto Wraps after rescuing the bartender Seezelslak from a First Order re-education facility.[25] After the defeat of the clone of Darth Sidious in 35 ABY,[26] the creature enthusiast Ardis San Tekka mentioned Ronto Wraps as part of her entry on rontos in her journal, which detailed her adventures seeing non-sentient creatures of the galaxy with her droid companion, B8-T5.[2]

Behind the scenes

Galaxy's Edge and Squadrons

The Ronto Wrap was created for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge.

The Ronto Wrap was announced on February 27, 2019, as part of a large press release on upcoming dining offerings for the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge themed land.[28] Its first appearance was in the first issue of the Marvel Comics comic-book miniseries Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, which was written by Ethan Sacks, penciled by Will Sliney,[8] and published on April 24 of that year.[29] The dish debuted in the real-world Ronto Roasters restaurant at Disneyland when it opened on May 31.[30] The official menu description for the Ronto Wrap is as follows: "Roasted Pork, Grilled Pork Sausage, Peppercorn Sauce, tangy Slaw, wrapped in Pita."[31]

The out-of-universe recipe for the dish was released in the cookbook Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas,[4] which was released on November 5, 2019.[32] The recipe calls for vegetable oil, diced yellow onion, ground pork, chorizo sausage with the casings removed, brown sugar, tomato purée, salt, pepper, guacamole, and ronto wrappers, which the book includes a separate recipe for.[4] According to Monroe-Cassel, the recipe in the cookbook varies from the recipe found in the theme parks due to accommodations made for residential kitchens.[33] In the video game Star Wars: Squadrons,[27] released on October 2, 2020,[34] the player's character occasionally mentions craving a Ronto Wrap at the start of a multiplayer match if the player is using the "Rookie B" voice.[27] Ronto Wraps also later appeared in "Lys' Lost Lightsaber," the second part of the tenth episode of Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures's second season,[6] which aired on August 14, 2024.[35] For the episode, artist Erick D. Acosta Arenas produced the animation modeling for the wraps.[36]

The September 8, 2020[38] non-canon video game expansion for The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu included Ronto Wraps as purchased from a vendor in group or single servings and used to fulfill the player's Sims' hunger needs.[39] Ronto Wraps also appeared in two flashbacks depicting stories told to Resistance general Finn in the 2022 Disney+ animated special LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation. In a flashback on[37] the planet[3] Coruscant[37] in 18 BBY,[40] Dark Lord of the Sith Darth Vader, a Trandoshan, and a Jawa celebrated the Imperial Empire Day holiday by acquiring some Ronto Wraps to consume. When their festivities angered Emperor Palpatine, Vader was prompted to throw away his wrap.[37]

In a flashback on the moon Endor[37] in 15 ABY,[41] the Twi'lek Mahlnor had one of the wraps while she visited the Admiral Snack Bar establishment on the moon. While there, she teased the Mon Calamari Gial Ackbar about not wanting to refer to a Ronto Wrap as a "snack." Later, Solo, his new acquaintance Sidero, and Mahlnor sat at the bar's tables and were served some Ronto Wraps with blue milk.[37] Additionally, Ronto Wraps are mentioned in the full version of the song "Scarif Beach Party," portions of which are played in LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation. The song was sung by "Weird Al" Yankovic—an artist who voiced the musician Vic Vankoh during a flashback on the planet Scarif—and released the same day as the animated special.[42]
