- "Hoooooon-doooooo Ohhhh-naaaa-kaaaa!"
- ―Hondo Ohnaka likened Maz Kanata's shouting to Tepasi taffy
Tepasi taffy was a type of blue, twisted candy.[2] It shared its name with Tepasi, a planet in the Core Worlds.[3] When the smuggler Maz Kanata addressed the pirate Hondo Ohnaka by shouting his name while at Kanata's castle on the planet Takodana, Ohnaka compared her drawn-out pronunciation to Tepasi taffy.[1]
Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs, who worked at the castle, laughed at the comparison for a week. After that point, he made sure that a bowl of the candy was out at the bar whenever Ohnaka was at the castle, reasoning that if his mouth was busy chewing, he would have less opportunities to get into trouble with Kanata. Tuggs included a recipe for Tepasi taffy in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook,[2] which he published in 34 ABY,[4] in which he included the story of Ohnaka and the taffy.[2]
Behind the scenes
Tepasi taffy was first mentioned in the junior novel Pirate's Price, which was written by Lou Anders[1] and published on January 8, 2019.[5] It was first pictured when it received an entry in the recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, authored by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel with photography by Ted Thomas[2] and published on November 5 of that year.[6] The out-of-universe recipe for the taffy calls for water, butterfly pea tea bags, sugar, honey, ginger, orange extract, vanilla extract, butter, and black salt.[2]
