- "It's so tasty, I even managed to sell a batch of the stuff to a scientific expedition party on Vandor. (And when it comes to cold, these guys are the experts.)"
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
Nectrose Freeze was a type of simple, no-churn ice cream created by the chef Strono Tuggs. The white dish could be served with a Golden Lichen Tuile and nectrose crystals as topping, and it was edible by Artiodacs[1] and humans.[2] In 3 ABY,[3] the human Willrow Hood was planning to travel to the planet Batuu for a job where he intended to eat some Nectrose Freeze, despite him expecting his waistline to protest to such a food.[2]
Tuggs once sold a batch of the ice cream to a research team on[1] the planet[4] Vandor.[1] In 34 ABY,[5] Tuggs included a recipe for Nectrose Freeze in his The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, where he called the dish tasty. He also included the story of the research team on Vandor in the book.[1]
Behind the scenes
- "One of the recipes most exclaimed over during the photo shoot, and one of my personal favorites, was the Nectrose Freeze ice cream with nectrose crystals on top. It's super fun and easy to make, but you get this unusual no-churn ice cream out of it, flavored by the toppings. After we got the shots we needed, the whole team pulled up some spoons and dug into the bowl with much happy murmuring. It was a great moment."
- ―Chelsea Monroe-Cassel
Nectrose Freeze was first introduced in the 2019 recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was authored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe for the dish calls for sweetened condensed milk, vanilla extract, olive oil, whipping cream, and Golden Lichen Tuile and nectrose crystals, both of which received their own recipes in the book.[1] The recipe for Nectrose Freeze was one of both Monroe-Cassel and Sumerak's favorites from the collection.[7][8] In an interview, the author indicated that the dessert's entry was one of the most "exclaimed over" during the cookbook's photoshoot and that the team working on the shoot ate the dish after they were done shooting.[6]
