- "Storage is limited in my food freighter, so when I travel from planet to planet, I try to bring along only the essential ingredients. That means some beasts, like puffer pigs, rarely make the menu. It's got nothin' to do with their taste. In fact, puffer pigs are pretty spectacular when you stuff 'em with some fresh herbs and roast 'em in their own juices. It's merely a matter of economy."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
Stuffed puffer pig was an entrée that contained pink-tinged, roasted slices of puffer pig with a brown-colored wrapping and a filling of fresh green herbs. The Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs considered the porcines delicious when stuffed and roasted in their own juices. At his mobile restaurant, Tuggs' Grub, he only served the dish when he could purchase puffer pigs upon arriving and docking his food freighter. The nervous creatures ballooned in size when frightened, taking up too much of his limited storage space to make it worth transporting them.[1] In 34 ABY,[2] he included a recipe for stuffed puffer pig in his cookbook, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook.[1]
At some point no earlier than 35 ABY,[3] Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts' Director of Creature Cartography, Ardis San Tekka, mentioned stuffed puffer pig in her journal within an entry about puffer pigs, noting that they were raised on Batuu for consumption to be enjoyed as part of the dish.[4]
Behind the scenes
Stuffed puffer pig was first mentioned in the 2019 recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas. The out-of-universe recipe is made with pork tenderloins wrapped with bacon and rolled around a filling of baby spinach, apple, fennel, sage, pepper, and salt.[1]
