- "Despite its decidedly floral notes, the Dagobah Slug Slinger isn't nearly as swampy as you might expect from a drink that originated on Dagobah. That's because it's got a tart citrus base that provides the ideal balance to the slug's sweet, herbaceous ooze."
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
Dagobah Slug Slinger was a cocktail with a strong alcoholic base. It could be sweetened with either the slime of its namesake, the Dagobah swamp slug, or with an imitation syrup, Dagobah Slug Syrup. It was served at Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost on the planet Batuu in 34 ABY. The human spy Vi Moradi drank the beverage there before she attempted to recruit for the Resistance.
The same year, Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs included recipes for the cocktail and syrup in his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook. At some point no earlier than 35 ABY, the drink was mentioned in a journal by Ardis San Tekka, the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts' Director of Creature Cartography.
Description
- "The strong flavors also do a nice job of smoothin' out the equally strong portion of booze it contains. But don't be fooled—this one has more kick to it than a master of Teräs Käsi!"
- ―Strono Tuggs, The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook
The Dagobah Slug Slinger was a green-colored cocktail named after swamp slugs,[2] a native species of the swamp planet Dagobah.[4] The large slugs secreted saccharine slime with fragrant notes from the herbs they had digested, and the slime was used to sweeten desserts and drinks. The cocktail's combination of sweet and herbaceous slime plus a tart citrus juice base masked its strong alcoholic content, which was said to have a stronger kick than a master of the martial art Teräs Käsi. The drink was garnished with a sprig of an herb.[2]
History
- "Swamp Slug slime is a key ingredient in the Dagobah Slug Slinger–one of the signature drinks at Oga’s Cantina on Batuu. Ardis sampled the verdant concoction on one of our visits, while I traded stories with DJ Rex. I think I got the better deal…"
- ―B8-T5's annotation, in Ardis San Tekka's journal
The cocktail was served at Oga's Cantina in Black Spire Outpost on the Outer Rim planet Batuu[1] in 34 ABY.[6] The cantina sweetened the drink with slime from swamp slugs that lived[7] in tanks along the bar back.[3] One night in 34 ABY,[8] Vi Moradi, a human female and Resistance spy, visited the cantina with her Batuuan coworkers after her first day's work for Savi & Son Salvage. Following her coworker Ylena's recommendation, Moradi started the night by imbibing a Dagobah Slug Slinger. After she bought the second round of drinks, she unsuccessfully attempted to recruit her new acquaintances for the Resistance.[3]
Strono Tuggs (pictured) included a recipe for Dagobah Slug Slinger that used imitation syrup in his cookbook.
Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs created an imitation syrup, Dagobah Slug Syrup, to use as a slime substitute when lacking a supply of slugs.[2] In 34 ABY,[9] Tuggs published his cookbook The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which included recipes for his imitation syrup and the Dagobah Slug Slinger.[2] The same year,[10] the historian Eloc Throno included a photo of Dagobah Slug Slinger in Batuu guidebook, Traveler's Guide to Batuu, listing it as one of Oga's Cantina's offerings.[7]
At some point no earlier than 35 ABY,[11] Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts' Director of Creature Cartography, Ardis San Tekka, and her safari droid B8-T5 visited Batuu while studying non-sentient creatures throughout the galaxy. While in Oga's Cantina, San Tekka tasted a Dagobah Slug Slinger while her droid conversed with the cantia's DJ, R-3X. Later, B8-T5 mentioned his owner consumption of a Dagobah Slug Slinger in an annotation in her journal, within a section about swamp slugs. In the same publication, San Tekka noted that the decadence of the swamp slugs' slime had led to smaller specimens of the species being exported from Dagobah and kept in captivity for chefs to harvest from them for dishes and drinks.[5]
Behind the scenes
The drink at a real-world Oga's Cantina
Dagobah Slug Slinger is one of the alcoholic beverages sold to customers in the real-world Oga's Cantina bar in the themed land Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. It was officially announced to the public on February 27, 2019 in an article on the website D23: The Official Disney Fan Club,[12] and debuted for guests to purchase when the land opened in Disneyland Park and Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.[13] The menu's description reads, "Herradura Reposado Tequila, Bols Blue Curaçao, Citrus Juices, Ginger, Herbs, and Bitters."[14] On November 18, 2024, the drink was removed from the menu at Disney's Hollywood Studios,[15] while the drink was retired from the Disneyland version's menu sometime after April 23, 2021.[14]
An out-of-universe recipe for the cocktail is included in the 2019 recipe book Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, written by Marc Sumerak and Chelsea Monroe-Cassel with photography by Ted Thomas. It is made with the ingredients Dagobah Slug Syrup, lime juice, orange juice, blue curaçao, tequila, and water. They are combined and shaken, then poured over ice and garnished with a sprig of rosemary.[2]
The 2020 non-canon video game expansion The Sims 4 Star Wars: Journey to Batuu includes Dagobah Slug Slingers as a drink sold to the player's Sims at the Oga's Cantina vendor in the Black Spire Outpost neighborhood. Upon consuming the drink for the first time, the Sim automatically learns the recipe and can prepare it at mixology bars in their home neighborhood.[16]
