"Each sip is gentle and calmin', but to be honest, the pleasant aroma waftin' up from the mug is almost enough to give me a much-needed moment of peace before I dive back into the hustle and bustle of a busy dinner service."
―Strono Tuggs[1]

Bantha Chai was a tea beverage created on Batuu by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs. He found it more relaxing and calming to drink than the bitter black caf that he usually drank on the job. His beverage combined hot tea, local spices, and fresh blue milk from Bubo Wamba's Milk Stand. The resulting beverage was blue in hue and rich in texture, with mellow flavors and a pleasant aroma. Tuggs included his recipe for the beverage in his The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook,[1] which was published in 34 ABY.[2] He presumed that the reader would not have a bantha available and suggested plant-based milk as a possible substitution.[1]

Behind the scenes

"For Galaxy's Edge, the strangest ingredient perhaps is a tea made out of blue butterfly pea flowers. It gives this really gorgeous blue color without the need for any additional food coloring."
―Chelsea Monroe-Cassel[3]

Bantha Chai was introduced in the recipe book authored by Chelsea Monroe-Cassel and Marc Sumerak with photography by Ted Thomas, Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook, which was released in 2019. The out-of-universe recipe for Bantha Chai uses rice milk or the reader's choice of milk, arrowroot powder, blue butterfly pea tea, ginger root, cardamom, mace, and sugar.[1] Cassel found that the blue butterfly pea tea used in the recipe was the most unique of the ingredients called for in the cookbook.[4]
