Plot summary
In the Kezarat Colony within No-Space, the rebel heroes meet a one-eyed alien who introduces himself as Captain Blythe. Blythe, who runs the colony, confirms that they were once the Kezarat Convoy, flying a group of fuel tankers on a resupply run that vanished two centuries ago. He reveals that they were attacked by the Nihil, a group of savage raiders with the unique ability to enter and exit No-Space, which the convoy can't figure out. Blythe also explains that the nearby platform, which the rebels had just landed on, was the Nihil's abandoned base.
Blythe reintroduces a boy from earlier, named Forvan, who is his son. Blythe tells Luke that he'll return his lightsaber once they're sure the rebels pose no threat. He tells the rebels about Alareen Xie, a Jedi who joined the convoy and helped them fight the Nihil. Although she eventually died there, a prophecy emerged that a Jedi would one day return to free them from No-Space.
When Lando and Chewbacca ask about records of escape attempts, Blythe dismisses their questions, explaining that others have looked at the data to no avail. He says that Chewbacca can look at the records in about six months, a timeline that concerns Leia. Blythe advises them to start thinking of the colony as their new home and that they will have duties to perform.
As the kill droids continue to destroy the rebels' ship on the platform, Luke tells Leia that he needs to get back to it. He explains that it holds an irreplaceable item: a sacred Jedi text containing the history, techniques, and sites of power related to the Force and the Jedi Order. He worries that without it, he'll never become a true Jedi.
Meanwhile, a kill droid throws the book into the air, and it lands on the edge of the platform. The kill droids then expose the path engine that was connected to the ship.
