Plot summary
- "Garlev's followers—his revolutionaries—are everywhere. Even the people I pay are siding with him. Your trinkets don't matter to me. Tools of a lost age. A time gone. A new world is being forged, Jedi. And there's no room for relics."
- ―Gallana Venk to Luke Skywalker
On an unidentified planet near the Fenril sector, Luke Skywalker awakes in a state of shock, concerned by the information he has just been told. Luke's partner, Rynn Zenat, stands at his side, relieved to see he is okay. Luke jumps to his feet, racing back to his X-Wing and begins to take off on his own, while Rynn follows behind in pursuit, wishing for more information at what startled him to act so swiftly. Attempting to get him to stop and return to Chandrila for medical aid, Luke tells her he needs to follow this lead on his own before jumping to Hyperspace. Rynn is left alone in her X-Wing, concerned about how she will explain this to Leia. Arriving on the snowy planet Gadrilam, Luke leaves R2-D2 with his X-Wing while he travels to a settlement in the distance. Luke recalls what the Nagai Pirate said to him. He revealed himself as a traitor and a rebel who wanted to seek out Luke himself, he tells him to find a Collector on Gadrilam called Ibo Truddispal who hoards ancient Jedi artifacts, specifically a crown that can help him learn the truth.
Meanwhile, on Chandrila, Rynn informs Leia and Chancellor Mon Mothma that Luke suddenly ran off with little explanation after the explosion. Leia reassures her that Luke running off like that must have been something important. Ending the transmission between them, Leia and Mothma turn to more pressing matters. Leia is shaken by the resent events with the Pirrosi Delegation and the sudden response to the New Republic trade ships, she feels that enemies of the New Republic are just starting to get into position.
Luke remembers back to a time on Echo Base where he was reading Obi-Wan's Journal and hearing about the Crown of Verity, an artifact that allows the wearer to see through any lie, but prevent them from lying themselves. Luke arrives at a local bar, he receives a cold reception to his sudden appearance, and apologises for interrupting the patrons. Luke sits at the bar, asking the bartender, Hossalana, if they know where Ibo is. The Nagai, Jesrit, sitting next to him, overhears his question, telling Luke that it is unusual for someone new to be searching for something on this unmapped planet, and recognises him as a Jedi. Hossalana breaks into the conversation, telling them to stop before trouble reaches the bar, but it is already too late. Several Nagai enter into the bar, questioning why a New Republic pilot would travel to this forgotten pilot. Jesrit begins to leave, but Luke swiftly asks if she knows Ibo, drawing the attention of two of the troublesome Nagai. They attempt to take Luke away, but he uses The Force to push them away from him. Gallana Venk orders her companions to capture the Jedi, Luke draws his lightsaber to defend himself from the attackers. Luke takes out the attackers and Venk swiftly departs, Jesrit also attempts to leave the bar, but Luke recognises that she knows the Smuggler and requests that she help him gather some answers.
Jesrit takes Luke through a forest, she informs Luke that Venk is not a nice leader, who does not follow Garlev, selling her allegiance for her own personal gain. Luke promises that as a Jedi, it is his duty to help these people. She brings Luke to an underground tunnel, leading to the cells where Ibo is being kept for attempting to escape with his collection of relics. Luke reflects on why he truly is following this information when he has previously been fooled by false relics, remembering that the pirate told him that the crown came from Benetage, stolen from Jedi Master Tobar Ka-Teen. He feels this is to be genuine information, considering that a lot of this information is something only he should know. Down the tunnel, Luke overhears Venk and her companions taking Ibo from his cell and move elsewhere. Springing into action, Luke ignites his lightsaber demanding they hand the crown over to him. Venk reveals the crown and throws it towards the ground, but Luke uses the force to pull the crown to him. Venk states that a new world is being formed where old Jedi relics has no place, and executes Ibo. Venk departs, leaving the Zantarrk Gang to kill Luke. However, they don't hold up much of a fight against the powerful force wielder. Luke escapes back through the tunnels, worried about the village and Jesrit who he promised to protect. Luke returns to the outskirts of the village, witnessing a field of executed Nagai and the village engulfed in flames.
