- "Lock S-foils in attack position."
- ―Garven Dreis
A T-70 X-wing with S-foils locked in attack position.
S-foils, also referred to as Strike foils or stability foils, were independent movable wings attached to starships that allowed for the activation of defensive systems.[2] They were mounted onto starfighters such as the various models of X-wing starfighter,[1] the ARC-170 starfighter,[3] the Outland TIE fighter,[4] and the U-wing starfighter,[5] sometimes equipped with weaponry. The foils were locked in the closed position in normal flight, but when engaged in combat the foils spread open into an attack position. Notable starfighter models that had S-foils were the T-65B X-wing starfighter[1] manufactured by Incom Corporation,[6] the T-70 and T-85 X-wing starfighters, manufactured by Incom-FreiTek Corporation,[7] and the B-wing starfighter[8] manufactured by Slayn & Korpil.[6] The distinctive X shape when the S-foils were locked in attack position gave the laser cannons mounted on each wing a wider field of fire.[9]
