Opening crawl

After investigating a raid on New Republic
supplies, LUKE SKYWALKER, RYNN ZENAT and
their squadron tracked down the pirates
responsible to the edges of the Fenril sector, only
to be ambushed.

Luke then learned that the Nagai are being
exploited by a group of treasonous pirates
colluding with the villainous Zantarrk gang that
Valance and Han Solo have been tracking.

Meanwhile, Princess Leia and Mon Mothma are
still contending with the complications of a tense
meeting with the Pirrosi delegation--who refuse
to join the New Republic. Elsewhere, the crew of a
New Republic trading vessel has gone missing….

Plot summary

On Kaltrais, in the Fenril sector, Prime Minister Kezrin Almovar and several of her associates await the arrival of Reyna Oskure. She informs them that she has successfully killed Garlev, leader of the Nagai rebellion, on Cloud City. During an appraisal from the Prime Minister, Prefect Walzor interrupts, stating that she finds using the Anzati sorceress distasteful, and tarnishes the reputation of the Pirrosi. Annoyed by this outburst, Oskure grabs the prefect's arm, pulling it behind their back, and criticizes them for failing to destroy Luke Skywalker. She breaks the prefect's arm, stating that the one true person in the way of their plans, Garlev, is now dead. She states, that anyone else who desires to question her methods, would suffer a similar experience.

Meanwhile, on Chandrila, Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker and New Republic pilot Rynn Zenat place the Crown of Verity inside of a glass display case. Rynn asks what the Crown does, Luke informs her that the wearer can only be told the truth, but they can also only tell the truth. Luke is contacted by Kith Alaytia, asking for his help with Leia Organa Solo. Approaching a transport ship, Chancellor Mon Mothma attempts to convince Leia not to travel to Kaltrais. However, Leia is set in her decision, sensing that something is wrong with the sudden switch from the New Republic and a change with President Tusvein Shoirin's personality. Luke catches up with Leia, but she suspects that he's also been enlisted to stop her from going to Kaltrais. Luke offers to travel with her, but she refuses since she already has Alaytia joining her. Before departing, she asks Luke to check on Han Solo when he returns from Cloud City. On Kaltrais, Leia meets with the president, sensing a sinister figure watching over the meeting, she discusses how the New Republic can benefit both his home-world and the Galaxy as a whole, but Shoirin states that this choice is out of his hands. Suddenly, the Zantarrk Gang busts into the room, arresting both Leia and Kith.

Back on Chandrila, Luke and Rynn meet up with Han and Beilert Valance on the Millennium Falcon. They inform Han that Leia has gone to the Fenril sector. Valance tells them that Lando's crew noticed Garlev's killer heading in that direction. Luke recognizes Garlev's name from his mission to Gadrilam, but Solo passes the news that an assassin had killed him before they could help him. Having realized that the Nagai and the Zantarrk appearances seem a little too coincidental, they decide that the only choice is to head to the Fenril Sector themselves.

In a holding cell on Kaltrais, Kith and Leia decide that waiting for help isn't a luxury they have, and begin forming a plan. Leia begins to choke, and Kith calls out for help, a Zantarrk Gang member comes into the room to check what the issue is. About to report the issue, Leia kicks the trooper and knocks him unconscious. On the way to the landing bay, Leia discovers President Shoirin also held in a holding cell and rescues him. Leia asks for information about who was forcing them to reject New Republic aid. He confirms that Prime Minister Almovar and Master Praetor Koyon approached as friends and asked for them to help build the Fenril Consortium, but brought in the Zantarrk Gang to help lure Luke into their hands. With the gang close behind, they continue to return to their ship and escape. Shoirin goes ahead of Leia and Kith to help make sure they can escape with no complications.

The Falcon arrives above Kaltrais, but they are immediately surrounded by Zantarrk Gang ships. Below on Kaltrais, Shoirin engages an override function, before being found by the Zantarrk and killed by them. Taking heavy fire, Solo feels as if they need rescuing more than his wife, but the defenses override themselves and begin firing on their own ships. Leia communicates with them, telling Han to get home to Ben Solo before matters get worse. Leia then receives a communication from Oskure accusing the New Republic of tyranny and branding the deceased Shoirin a criminal. However, the attempt to intimidate Leia fails as she cuts communication between them. Almovar is displeased by Oskure's choice of retreating, stating for the Fenril Consortium to thrive, they must avoid retreating. Mon Mothma communicates with the crew on the Falcon, she confirms that Leia has returned to Chandrila, but their return might be delayed. She shares a distress signal, sent by the surviving members of the Nechrim's Wake on Loradil. The message concludes with the recognizable sounds of Separatist B1 Battle Droids attacking the survivors.
