Meeting topics

Tentative meeting outline

Note: If the meeting runs for too much over an hour some topics can be held off until a later meeting.

1. Discussion about adding EduCorps-only responsibilities.
   • The responsibility to review articles on the Comprehensive article nominations page
   • The responsibility to review articles placed on the Comprehensive article review page
   • The responsibility to attend the EduCorps meetings
2. Discussion about the practice of cutting words to keep articles CAs.
3. Discussion related the assumption of sentience on species CANs.
   • Can non-sentience ever be inferred?
   • Where do plants fall in, especially fruits and vegetables.
4. Discussion about whether to include fruits, nuts, and vegetables in the main listing as species or as food.
5. How should should we handle articles that fall at or over 200 words without an intro? Should we:
   • Notify the nominators and then put the articles on the page if they haven't responded in a couple of weeks?
   • Just put all of the articles on the review page? (Maybe 10 or so at a time)
   • Be handled individually in meetings if they are not fixed within a month?
   • Try some other idea?
6. Discussion about getting a site notice/user messages to tell users about the articles under review.
7. Should quotes, italics, or nothing be used for linking to Hyperspace articles like Dining at Dex's?
8. This question could also be applied to other stories/articles as well.
9. Discuss whether Star Wars Galaxies Trading Card Game articles can be determined to be in a specifc era.
10. Discussion of individual articles will be held off until future meetings (unless they are all fixed before then).
11. Establishing a number of EC votes required to remove a CAN - I didn't see one on the page.
    • From the bottom of the instructions on the CAN page: "All nominations will be considered idle and are subject to instantaneous removal by EduCorps members if objections are not addressed, or at least not answered, after a period of 1 week." (emphasis added) This is carried over from the original version at the start of the trial run in 2010. • I was thinking that increasing EduCorps-only requirements to where those users are required to review on the CAN page and the CA review page.--Exiled Jedi (Greetings) 03:33, August 18, 2013 (UTC)
• As a random note, I knew back when we first approved the CA process that this would eventually happen. The only surprise is that it took over three years. • Wookieepedia:EduCorps/CA maintenance issues lists some articles with issues, but others need to be added here.

Droids

• Unidentified Tarisian surveillance droid (Did the droid get destroyed in the end? No mention is made at all)
  • Though I haven't read the book in question, it would appear that the explosion injuring nobody also meant the droid wasn't harmed? Hope the nominator can address this though. Hanzo Hasashi (talk) 18:47, August 18, 2013 (UTC)
    • The source, which is merely a three-paragraph "weird news" story in the back of a KotOR issue, does not give any indication as to the droid's fate, nor does it make clear whether "No one was injured in the ensuing blast" (the source's words) refers only to living beings or to the droid as well. —MJ— ^{Training Room} 18:57, August 18, 2013 (UTC)

Other species notes

• The majority of the species articles also need their infoboxes reloaded.
  • This is a complete "Make-work" exercise. Where reloading an infobox would have any effect on the article to the reader, I have done it (This includes where any of the new fields would have content). Reloading any of the remaining species will make no difference to the reader at all. In my opinion, we should be funneling people toward productive work, not compliance with a technical rule that will have no impact on the reader or user of the Wookieepedia. It's unclear if the proposal is to strip articles of status for this reason. I dearly hope not. --Eyrezer (talk) 08:58, August 28, 2013 (UTC)
    • Just for the record, I would like to point out that reloading infoboxes to account for missing fields or rejigs of the template, regardless of reader usage, is a valid objection at both GAN and FAN level. - Sir Cavalier of One^{(Squadron channel)} 09:07, August 28, 2013 (UTC)

        • I didn't comment on that. If the EC meeting follows the course of either the AC or INQ meetings, then articles will be probed first, not stripped of status immediately. • There is also a problem with a large number of assumptions for non-sentience.
• If you find that a source confirms non-sentience/semi-sentience, please strike the appropriate article from the list.
• Please take any large discussions on the sentience discussion to the discussion section at the end of the article.
• This issue will be discussed at the meeting as a whole not as individual articles.
