Scorpion slugs were a non-sentient species[1] native to Despayre,[2] an Outer Rim Territories planet.[3] They were named for the stinger on the end of their tail,[2] which could cause weeks of agony for many humanoid species until the victim either recovered or perished[1] due to the potent venom. Meanwhile, a scorpion slug's sting was usually lethal to smaller creatures.[2] The slugs liked to live among dried evergreen branches.[1] By some point between 3 BBY and 0 BBY,[4] prisoners such as Celot Ratua Dil often used the branches for sleeping mats, though they frequently changed branches to avoid the creatures. All the scorpion slugs on Despayre perished with the destruction of the planet by the Galactic Empire's Death Star battle station[1] in 0 BBY.[5]
Behind the scenes
Scorpion slugs were first mentioned in the 2007 novel Death Star, written by Michael Reaves and Steve Perry.[1]
