Between 40 BBY and 34 BBY,[3] the assassin Corlis Rath and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn engaged each other in[1] a challenging[2] duel on the agriworld of Mina-Rau. Having poisoned and killed the Jedi Master Fondar Etzis with a fast acting toxin, Rath drew Jinn to Mina-Rau to surprise and kill the Jedi,[1] whom he had been hunting because of an incident that occurred when Jinn was a Padawan.[5] Arriving on Mina-Rau as part of an honor guard with fellow Master Mace Windu and Jedi Knight Aayla Secura, Jinn put together that Etzis had been murdered and sensed the assassin's approach when he finally revealed himself, whereas Windu and Secura were caught off guard and knocked out via poison darts. Rath engaged Jinn's lightsaber with[1] his energy-tipped blades[5] and revealed his vendetta against the Jedi had something to do with[1] the dangerous world[4] of Sinsara, something that shocked Jinn and gave Rath and opening to stab him through the chest.[1] Poisoned, Jinn's condition was nearly fatal. In order to save Jinn's life, Secura and Windu needed to journey to Sinsara itself to find an antidote.[4]
