Grain fields and silos on Mina-Rau, an agriworld
Agriworlds,[1] also known as an agricultural planet, or as an agrarian world,[2] were planets where crops such as grain were grown and exported to produce foodstuff across the galaxy.[1]
Farmers would often use crop silos to store crops, and in some cases like on Mina-Rau, live inside them.[3]
History
- "Salliche is the breadbasket of the Core Worlds. If we fell, how would planets such as Coruscant survive?"
"There are plenty of agricultural worlds in the Outer Rim who could supply crops. Perhaps Salliche is afraid of the competition?" - ―Senator Bulgeski and Jedi Master Dooku
The agriworld of Ukio, which was also part of the Outer Rim, served as a major producer of grain sent to the Core Worlds until it seceded from the Galactic Republic.[5]
By the time of the Galactic Empire, it became increasingly common for undocumented migrants to help with labor on agriworlds, and the Empire would often turn a blind eye due to the necessity of foodstuff across the galaxy.[6]
