Holocron continuity database questions on the StarWars.com Message Boards (January 21, 2004) (original site is defunct) - Leland Chee first discussed how canon is handled by the Holocron- Leland Chee/Abel Pena about Polyhedron (2005-10-03) (Comment sparked by a Jaymach question related to a thread on JCF, here)
- Q. "Just a quick question: what (if anything) is the continuity status for the RPG scenarios that were published in Polyhedron magazine in the 1990s, most of which appeared under the byline or co-authorship of WEG's Bill Slavicsek?"
- A. "My understanding is that the 90's Polyhedron articles did not go through the LFL approval process, thus they have not been considered official continuity."
- Leland Chee about Dungeon/Polyhedron (2006-02-28)
- "I do want to clarify that the old Polyhedrons, to my knowledge are unofficial. There were a few Star Wars articles in Dungeon/Polyedron magazine that were published after April 2003 that are official."
- Leland Chee about ambiguous canon and Polyhedron (2006-05-23)
- Q. "But I assume the honorable mentions remain non-canon--or at best ambiguously canon along the same lines as, say, the Polyhedron material."
- A. "What makes something part of continuity is approval by Lucasfilm/Lucas Licensing. So it doesn't make a difference whether it was a winner or an honorable mention, they're all going to be treated equally as far as the Holocron is concerned. With regard to the Polyhedron material, if we're talking about the material created after 2003, then yes, it is considered part of continuity, because it went through Licensing for approval. I don't know of the Polyhedron material from 90's being approved by Licensing, so I can't include it as part of continuity in the Holocron.
- Q. "So were, or were not, the DAA entries that were published (both the six winners and the honorable mentions) approved by Lucas Licensing?"
- A. "All official Star Wars publications are approved by Licensing in their entirety. For something like the official Dungeon/Polyhedron stuff, only the Star Wars-related content goes through Licensing approval. So yes, the DAA entries would have been approved by Licensing (though I doubt the editors had continuity in mind at the time when they were approved.)"
What'd I say again? Select posts by me regarding continuity on Keeper of the Holocron — Leland Chee's StarWars.com Blog (December 21, 2006) (original site is defunct) (general canon level commentary, not specific unlicensed sources)- Email from Jason Fry regarding the inclusion of ambiguous canon elements into the Atlas, Lucasfilm position, and Casus Belli (2012-07-09)
- Q. "Are any of the Star Wars articles and adventures or characters and locations featured in French gaming magazine Casus Belli considered canon?
- A. "No, not canon. For the Atlas, we discussed these ambiguously canon works with Lucasfilm, and agreed to treat as canon the planets/star systems introduced by authors who had done licensed Star Wars work elsewhere. However, the other information in those articles is not treated as canon, and nothing in the articles by other authors is treated as canon. The Casus Belli material would fall under this last category."
