The Duor's language was used by members of the sentient, dolphin-like Duor species which was native to the waterworld Arrakan. It incorporated whistling and clicking sounds, and the Duor, who could also communicate telepathically, often used the language to discuss philosophy or high science with other members of the species. To individuals who did not speak the Duor's language its sounds could have an endearing quality.[1]
At one point during the Great Jedi Purge and the Galactic Civil War, a protocol droid who had accompanied a group of Jedi and their companions to Arrakan's principal city, Kearleonis, he attempted to decipher the language used by a group of Duor who appeared to be playing in a nearby pool. To the droid's surprise, he discovered that the Duor were in fact discussing quantum physics. The Jedi and their companions subsequently went on to establish telepathic contact with the Duor.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Duor's language appeared in the second part of Phil Sidebotham's roleplaying adventure "Flight of the Jedi," which was published in the Spring 2000 twentieth issue of the Valkyrie magazine for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Since that article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process,[1] it was considered non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[2]
