- A captain: "Why should I risk my ship for…"
- A Wookiee: "GRRRAAOUUOO!"
- A Rebel: "He said…"
- The captain: "I know what he said, you Sybrial brain slug. Just tell him to hurry up with the landing coordinates before I change my mind."
- ―The captain of a starship, a Wookiee, and a Rebel[1]
The Sybrial brain slug was a type of slug[1] that shared its name with the Sybrial system of the Vodilux sector.[2] At one point during the Galactic Civil War between the Galactic Empire and the Rebel Alliance, a Wookiee hijacked the starship of a group of Alliance agents in order to launch a rescue attempt of his family at the Imperial prison on the planet Branth. When one of the Rebels translated the Wookiee's explanation of his actions to the ship's captain, the latter voiced their protest. In response, the Wookiee made a loud exclamation in the Shyriiwook language, but, when the Rebel once again began translating, the captain cut them off, proclaiming his comprehension of the intent behind the utterance and comparing the Rebel to a Sybrial brain slug.[1]
Behind the scenes
The Sybrial brain slug was mentioned in "Wookiees Amok," a roleplaying adventure written by Timothy M. Ryan and published in the 1989 thirty-seventh issue of the Challenge magazine for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Since that adventure was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process,[1] it was considered non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3]
