The vortal tree was a type of tree that grew in jungles on the planet Bestal Three of[1] the Outer Rim Territories' Varada sector.[2] It had crusty seeds from which healing stimulants could be made.[1]
During the existence of the New Republic, the company Fax Ventures harvested vortal tree seeds on Bestal Three. Using the stimulants made from the seeds, the company created medpacs, the effectiveness of which was twenty-five percent higher than that of standard medpacs, such as those manufactured by the SoroSuub Corporation. Not long before Fax Ventures would begin marketing its new medpacs, the company was covering up the vortal tree seed harvesting by processing on the planet aluminite and corvax ores mined at the nearby Kadal Asteroid Field—a highly-profitable venture the lucrativeness of which was nevertheless less pronounced than that of the medpac manufacture.[1]
Behind the scenes
The vortal tree was introduced in "Adversaries: Characters for the Star Wars: New Republic Campaign," a roleplaying game source article authored by Bill Slavicsek for use with West End Games' Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and published in the ninety-seventh issue of the Polyhedron magazine in July 1994. Since that article was released outside of the Lucas Licensing process,[1] it was considered non-canonical with respect to the Star Wars Legends continuity.[3]
