"Among the exotics cataloged by the Sector Rangers were a Tralusian styanax, a sycanid from Humbarine, an Arkanian polar drake, Outer Rim worrts, and a dwarf rathtar from Trillia."
―Police Commissioner Exantor Divo, Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious[7]

Humbarine was an ancient world that constituted a part of the Core Worlds. Home to the Humbarine Academy of Advanced Studies, it was subjected to a devastating Separatist orbital bombardment during the Clone Wars and later had a planetary defense force in which the pilot Lega Fossang at one point served. Humbarine supported the reign of Galactic Emperor Palpatine, and, following the end of the Galactic Civil War, it came under the control of an Imperial remnant incorporating possessions in the galaxy's inner regions.

Description

Humbarine was a terrestrial[6] world[8] located in the Humbarine system,[4] a part of the Humbarine sector[3] of the Core Worlds[1] and the Slice.[2] Situated in grid square M-10 of the Standard Galactic Grid, Humbarine was connected by a hyperspace route to the Commenor[1] and Gatalenta systems[9] as well as the Hydian Way route.[1] Humbarine was the homeworld of the sycanid creature,[7] and it shared its name with both the dish known as Humbarine chipplets and the entity known as the Humbarine Ore Caravan, which, in the first draft of his holobook, "Hondo's Memoirs," the Weequay pirate captain Hondo Ohnaka claimed to have decimated at some point at least twenty cycles before[10] 3 ABY.[11]

History

The scientist Galen Erso studied at the Humbarine Academy of Advanced Studies at one point[6] between 40 BBY and 22 BBY.[12] Humbarine served as the capital of the Humbarine sector and was home to the human Bana Breemu, who, by the time of the Clone Wars, represented the sector in the Senate of the Galactic Republic. At some point during that conflict, the Confederacy of Independent Systems carried out an orbital bombardment of Humbarine that completely seared the world's surface.[3]

The Resistance pilot Lega Fossang at one point served with a planetary defense force on Humbarine.

By the time of the Galactic Civil War, Humbarine was an ancient and conservative world that supported the reign of Emperor Palpatine of the Galactic Empire. After the war's end, it came under the control of an Imperial remnant that incorporated the Empire's former possessions in the Core, the Colonies, and the Inner Rim Territories.[8]

In 34 ABY,[13] the New Republic Sector Rangers discovered the cargo starship Sketter's Quarrel dead in space. Aboard the vessel, the Rangers found several exotic creatures the private ownership of which was illegal, including a sycanid from Humbarine.[7] Later that same year,[14] information from the Rangers' file on the case, which mentioned the sycanid's origin, was published in the book Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, which was authored by New Republic Police Commissioner Exantor Divo.[7] The Resistance pilot Major Temmin Wexley recruited the human pilot Lega Fossang from a planetary defense force on Humbarine[5] at some point by 35 ABY,[15] and she brought her own Y-wing starfighter for the Resistance's use.[5]

Behind the scenes

Humbarine was introduced in the current Star Wars canon in "The History of Neimoidia,"[16] an article written by Mark Newbold[17] and included in the "Guide to the Galaxy" department of the fifty-second issue of the Star Wars: Build the Millennium Falcon magazine[16] that was published around December 30, 2015.[18] It was subsequently established as a distinct celestial body in Pablo Hidalgo's 2018 reference book Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious.[7]

Anderson,[21] and first appeared in the non-canonical 2009 mobile game Star Wars: Jedi Mind Tricks.[23]

  12. Star Wars: Rogue One: Rebel Dossier establishes that Galen Erso studied at the Humbarine Academy of Advanced Studies after his entrance at the Brentaal Futures Program, which Star Wars: Rogue One: The Ultimate Visual Guide dates to 40 BBY, and before his employment at the Institute of Applied Science, which Catalyst: A Rogue One Novel places prior to the beginning of the Clone Wars and therefore at some point by 22 BBY per Star Wars: Galactic Atlas: Updated Edition.
  13. Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious dates the discovery of the Sketter's Quarrel to 8011 C.R.C. and gives 7980 C.R.C. as the year that the carbon-freezing of Han Solo. As Star Wars: Timelines dates Solo's carbon-freezing to 3 ABY, the discovery of the Sketter's Quarrel must therefore have taken place in 34 ABY.
  14. The latest entries chronologically in Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious are dated to 8011 (C.R.C. date) and gives 7980 (C.R.C. date) as the year that the carbon-freezing of Han Solo, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 3 ABY. Therefore, 8011 C.R.C. must have been around 34 ABY. Scum and Villainy also mentions Hosnian Prime as still being capital of the New Republic, meaning the in-universe Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious must have been published prior to the destruction of the planet, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. As the publishing must have occurred between the time of the latest entries and the destruction of Hosnian Prime, it therefore also took place around 34 ABY.
  15. Star Wars: Timelines states that the events of Star Wars: Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, by the time of which Lega Fossang had joined the Resistance, occur in 25 ABY.
