The sycanid was a type of exotic creature. A sycanid from Humbarine was being carried aboard the cargo vessel Sketter's Quarrel while it was traveling to the Mol'leaj system to deliver exotic creatures, many of which were illegal to personally own, to the star system's Regent Solculvis. The vessel was left dead in space during the journey after the crew were killed by kheilwar wasps that had escaped from a damaged cargo container.[1]
In 34 ABY,[2] the ship was discovered and its contents, including the sycanid, were catalogued by members of the Sector Rangers. Information from the Rangers' file on the case was later published in the book Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, which was authored by Police Commissioner Exantor Divo.[1]

A sycanid was first mentioned in the 2018 reference book Star Wars: Scum and Villainy: Case Files on the Galaxy's Most Notorious, which was written by Pablo Hidalgo.[1]
