Plot summary
Flashback and fleeing Basham
The episode begins with a cloaked figure wielding a green lightsaber sweeping through a burning building littered with bodies. A girl with a scar on the left side of her face aims her blaster at the cloaked figure, who uses the Force to levitate it.
The episode then cuts to the female bounty hunter Sevn running to the bridge of her starship as proximity alarms ring. She asks her humanoid droid co-pilot IV-A4 if their attackers are agents from Basham. IV-A4 confirms their attackers are indeed from the Basham while Sevn runs through their list of enemies. Seven grumbles about spending their reward money on maintaining IV-A4. The droid blames her for installing the assassin protocol, which Seven apologizes for installing and promises to fix him one day.
At Sevn's plea, IV-A4 enters into assassin mode and extends four extra arms to man the ship's laser cannons. Sevn's starship Sand Bird shoots several of the pursuing Basham starships. During the pursuit, the two argue, with IV-A4 for installing an assassination program into him. Seven blames IV-A4 for causing the Basham to label her a traitor. IV-A4 manages to lose their pursuers by releasing a seismic charge, which destroys the pursuing Basham starfighters. Sevn and IV-A4 then take the opportunity to escape aboard the Sand Bird into hyperspace.
The job offer
After exiting hyperspace, IV-A4 performs a damage assessment and reports that the power connector and capacitor have been damaged beyond repair. The droid says that the entire ship has sustained moderate damage, and recommends an overhaul. Sevn sighs and asks IV-A4 to add the damages to their list of expenses. Sevn sets a course to the nearby planet of Genya where she hopes to find the Bounty Hunters' Guild. As they approach the port on Genya, the Sand Bird is caught in a tractor beam and pulled towards a landing platform.
After landing, Sevn and IV-A4 are met by a humanoid droid serving Jin-Sim Canbelon, the head of the resource development company Zonus Corporation. He escorts the pair into a waiting limousine speeder. The two ascend up a turbolift into an opulent office where they are greeted by a human man with long brown hair. The man introduces himself as Jin-Sim and has his servant droid bring them tea. Jin-Sim is aware that Sevn is a former Basham bounty hunter. Consulting a hologram, he reads through her biography. Sevn was an orphan from Mita who was trained by Basham as a soldier. Rising through their ranks, she became one of their best bounty hunters before deserting.
Sevn remarks that Jin-Sim has done his research. At the request of IV-A4, Jin-Sim briefs them about their job. He explains that an insurgent group led by a masked Twi'lek has been terrorizing his mining operations. Jin-Sim tasks Sevn and IV-A4 with capturing the insurgents under the pretext of wanting to "reform" them. He offers an advance payment of overhauling their damaged starship and paying them an additional 150,000 credits upon the completion of their job. Jin-Sim also invites Sevn to consider a job offer as the commander of his defense force, promising protection from Basham and a weekly salary of 7,000 credits. Sevn seems optimistic but asks time to reflect on Jin-Sim's job offer.
Shortly later, a green-skinned Twi'lek girl enters Jin-Sim's office with a canister of Premium Deluxe D90 Droid Oil, which pleases IV-A4. Jin-Sim says there is a place for droids in his company from management to excavation. When Sevn notices a silver collar on the Twi'lek girl's neck, Jin-Sim claims that the girl is a war orphan and that the collar is for the purpose of monitoring her health. Jin-Sim claims that his staff are paid, prompting Sevn to compliment his generosity. She notices tea tea is bitter. Jin-Sim provides them with a hologram containing intelligence about the insurgents and speeders to complete their job.
While walking through a corridor with Transparisteel windows, Sevn sees children from various species including Twi'leks and Togrutas sorting out minerals. The servant droid explains that the company runs on child labor since they are more skilled for certain tasks than droids. Later that night, Sevn and IV-A4 travel on a speeder to Mount Jobin. While IV-A4 is enthusiastic about Jin-Sim's job offer, Sevn seems moody but is unwilling to discuss her feelings with IV-A4.
Hunting the insurgents
Later in the day, members of the insurgent group gather at their base, whose entrance is guarded by a large, fat figure. Inside, a Twi'lek named Eno gazes down at a hologram figure and says that she is coming for one. She then meets with her five fellow insurgents, who are beings of various species including a Togruta and a Nautolan. As the six extend their hands together, Eno vows to rescue the child laborers in the captivity of the Zonus Corporation. Their meeting is interrupted by a flash grenade being throne through a hole in the roof of the cave.
Sven and IV-A4 storm the base and overpower the insurgents following a brief fight. After IV-A4 assesses the insurgents' injuries, Sevn prepares to take them into custody. Eno begs Sven and IV-A4 to hear them out. Despite IV-A4's objections to listening to their targets, Sevn agrees to hear Eno out due to her misgivings about Jin-Sim. Eno explains that Jin Sim exploits war orphans as slaves and that the insurgents are escaped slaves who only one to free their brothers and sisters. Sevn says that she sensed something suspicious about Jin Sim. Eno adds that Jin Sim wants to enslave the insurgents and add her and her sister to his collection.
A falling out
Sevn removes Eno's mask and realizes that she resembles the Twi-lek servant girl they encountered earlier. When Sevn says that she is reluctant to let her targets go, Eno warns that Jin-Sim controls people through money. Sevn wants to carry out her job and drags Eno forward, causing her to drop a round hologram which plays a recording of Eno and her sister having a meal together with their parents. Eno gives her sister a bracelet. The video makes Sevn reconsider, which prompts IV-A4 to enter into his assassin mode and chastise Sevn for spurning a lucrative employment offer. IV-A4 says that the Zonus Corporation might be able to fix him and goes amuck, firing several blasters. An enraged IV-A4 leaves, saying that he is taking the Sand Bird as payment.
Later, Sevn travels back to Zonus Corporation's headquarters with the captured insurgents inside a trailer at the back of her speeder. Meanwhile, IV-A4 is aboard the refurbished Sand Bird when he receives a video message from a Trandoshan information broker for Sevn. The Trandoshan reveals that the assassin protocol was developed by the assassin group, Winger, who might know how to install it. The Trandoshan marvels that Sevn was willing to spend a fortune on a droid and requests payment. IV-A4 takes the Sand Bird into the air.
Joining the insurgents
Meanwhile, Sevn delivers the six captured insurgents to Jin-Sim inside his opulent office. He pays her handsomely. When Sevn questions him about running a business built on slave labor, Jin-Sim dismisses it as a conspiracy theory. When Sevn asks to speak with the Twi'lek servant girl, Jin-Sim claims that employees are not permitted to speak with outsiders for security reasons. Jin-Sim motions for his burly B2-series super battle droids to deal with the insurgents. Sevn replies that she will have to be more forceful with her request and deactivates the insurgents' Magnetic binders. The insurgents quickly arm themselves.
While Sevn takes out the burly security droids with her blaster, she tells the insurgents to free the children. Jin-Sim takes shelter behind his ornate desk. When Sevn condemns him for exploiting the weak, Jin-Sim retorts that bounty hunters do the same and summons a giant droideka, which is protected by an energy shield. Sevn is unable to pierce the droideka's energy shield. Jin-Sim dons the droideka like a mech unit and blasts Sevn, who takes shelter behind his desk. He chastises her for spurning his "honest deal."
Meanwhile, the insurgents enter the factory and take out several security droids. Sevn tries to blow up Jin-Sim's droideka with a grenade but is unable to pierce through the droid's energy shield. She then detonates several thermal detonators planted in the ceiling, causing debris to crush Jin-Sim and his droideka.
In a flashback, Sevn faces the hooded Jedi, who spares her life. Taking pity on Sevn, the Jedi acknowledges that circumstances have robbed her of her parents. She tells Sevn to leave this "wicked place" and put her skills to doing good. As she frees Sevn from her shock collar, she tells Sevn to let the Force guide her.
Facing down Jin-Sim
Back in the present, Sevn finds herself in a hole beneath Jin-Sim's office, which turns out to be the businessman's wrecked art collection. While pondering on the Jedi's words to do good, she is pursued by Jin-Sim, who taunts her that her droid companion has abandoned her. When all seems lost, IV-4A arrives in the Sand Bird and blasts Jin-Sim's droideka unit. The assassin droid drives Jin-Sim away. Sevn is relieved that IV-4A has returned for her, prompting the droid to muse that she would be in carbonite without him. He tells Sevn that the droideka's weak point is at its back and that he will do what he can to distract Jin-Sim.
Jin-Sim rises from the debris and takes on IV-4A, who jumps from the Sand Bird and enters into assassin droid mode. While IV-4A distracts Jin-Sim, Sevn hurls an ion grenade under the droideka's energy shield, deactivating the droideka unit. Sevn holds Jin-Sim at gunpoint and demands that he release the child. A defiant Jin-Sim instead activates a self-destruct mechanism in each of the children's collars. He offers to spare the children if Sevn destroys her droid. IV-4A is willing to sacrifice himself to save the children. Sevn reluctantly complies.
Jin-Sim orders Sevn to toss her blaster. After grabbing it, he says that he gave the orphans food, clothing, shelter and work. He claims that he let them live as people. Aiming his gung at Sevn, he says she has no right to judge him. Sevn counters that Jin-Sim exploits them as slave labor and says that she would prefer to be frozen in carbonite then to work for him. Jin-Sim suggests he can deliver her body to Basham. Before he can stun her, IV-4A reactivates and knocks the businessman to the ground. Sevn says that her droid has two personalities and vows to deliver him to the Republic authorities frozen in carbonite. Jin-Sim begs for mercy but Sevn stuns him.
Liberation and escape
Shortly later, Eno experiences a tearful reunion with her younger sister Karin. The insurgents free the other children, whose shock collars fall off. Sevn finds a painting that survived the skirmish and suggests the the insurgents sell it for food. IV-4A says the painting is worth 2.1 million credits. When Eno asks if Sevn is sure, Sevn says that the children will need to eat. Later, Sevn and IV-4A leave Zonus' headquarters in their repaired starship Sand Bird. The liberated slaves wave while two insurgents guard Jin-Sim.
In space, IV-4A admits to reading Sevn's private message about the Winger programming. Sevn is incensed that he has been going through her private mail. Shortly later, they are pursued by several Basham assassins, who have been tipped off by Jin-Sim. As they flee into hypersapce, IV-4A vows to find that female Jedi and "give her a piece of her mind."
