Plot summary
An abandoned world
The episode opens with a figure in a yellow environmental suit using a machine to extract carbonite at the mouth of a cave. Meanwhile, a human hand removes a metal pole from the panel of a parked starfighter. A figure stands on top of a cliff and uses a pair of macrobinoculars to survey an abandoned town built around a harbor. The figure is revealed to be the Jedi F, a survivor of the Great Jedi Purge. She sees a group of humans in yellow environmental suits loading supplies onto a blue and white Sheathipede-class transport shuttle.
A brown skinned woman with a black bobtail calls for Theo. A man with long orange hair named Ron holds a test tube containing a yellow substance and says it was worth coming back to extract the material. While the others search for Theo, Ron tasks Lulu with preparing the ship for takeoff. The group search through the streets of the ruined town for Theo. Ron eventually finds a despondent Theo in the ruins of his former apartment. Theo wants to be with his late family but Ron encourages Theo to persevere. Theo is despondent about the survival of their people since the Galactic Empire has not been answering their calls for help. Other worlds regard their people as a nuisance. Ron is optimistic that other worlds will be willing to take them in.
A Jedi ally
Just then, Ron and Theo are caught in a major groundquakes that tears the building apart. However, they are miraculously saved from being crushed and buried beneath fallen debris through the Force powers of the Jedi woman F. F extends a hand to Ron and helps pull him out of the rubble. Together, F departs with the group aboard their starship as a purple carbonite storm sweeps through the harbor and town, freezing plans and buildings.
Ron introduces himself to F. When F asks what happened to their planet, Ron explains that Inoli was once a carbonite mining world. During the war, Inoli was abandoned and left to waste away. He explains that the carbonite has been leaking in gas form through groundquakes like the last one. He adds that a third of the planet has been frozen in carbonite. Ron believes that the city they left has also been frozen in carbonite. F deduces that the refugees have lost their planet. Ron says that they have lost much more.
He shows F a case containing yellow concentrated carbonite. Ron explains that the group have been researching concentrated carbonite gas with the goal of reclaiming their homeworld of Inoli. Shortly later, a small blue droid named Lulu wheels down from the cockpit. When F greets Lulu, Ron asks if F is acquainted with Joona.
Befriending the refugees
Ron's transport flies into a large rectangular orange ship orbiting Inoli. Aboard the starship, F mingles with several children who are curious about the newcomer. Besides humans, there are individuals from several alien species aboard the starship including Besalisks and Ithorians. An orange-haired boy named Leon pesters F with questions about meiloorun fruit and Coruscant. A little girl with orange hair named Mei introduces her tooka doll Imly to F. Another boy asks about the Jedi, believing that they were the "bad guys" who were defeated by the Empire. Another child says he wants to join the Empire when he grows up.
In response to misconceptions about the Empire, F gently responds that getting older is not the same as growing up. She counsels them to learn through experience. When Leon asks if there is no such thing as the Force, F replies that he will have to figure things out through study and observation so they can make their own decisions. F adds that knowledge and experience complement imagination, helping people to notice things that they haven't seen before such as someone's feelings. A brown-haired boy slinks away. Speaking to Leon, F says that not everything they see is true. On the other hand, there are some things you can believe without seeing. She warns that evil takes advantage of people's ignorance and conflict.
The brown haired boy speaks with an orange-haired child in the midst of the crowd. F warns that ignorance fosters conflict and that suspicion eats away at people. She warns that these leave wounds that target one's heart. As F touches the scar on the right side of her chin, Mei asks if Joona will heal her wound. An older child chides Mei for asking a personal question. F gently responds that this is a wound that she will have to heal by herself.
Later, F meets with the Besalisk cyberneticist Joona, who refits her prosthetic left leg, which can simulate clothes. Joona advises F to be more careful next time. Noticing that F has befriended and gained the trust of the local children, he suggests that F would make a good teacher unlike her master. F says that she doesn't know. In a flashback scene, a younger F undergoes a lesson sparring with her master with sticks. When F complains that she is small, her master counters that Jedi Master Yoda is also small but a superb fighter.
The Empire arrives
While F is in her personal quarters, Joona asks her to consider staying for a while among the refugees. F is reluctant to overstay her welcome but expresses hope of meeting Joona on his homeworld of Inoli. Just then, klaxons ring as an Imperial Star Destroyer exits hyperspace and opens fire on the refugee ship. An Imperial Admiral addresses the fugitive Jedi F, demanding that she surrender in order to save the lives of the innocent refugee. Leon wants to help his older brother Ron but Ron tells him to look after Joona.
Ron confronts F for not telling them that she was a fugitive Jedi. F wants to surrender herself to the Empire in order to spare the refugees. Ron disagrees and suggests escaping. F insists on sticking to her moral code of endangering others to save herself. Ron is interrupted by Theo, who tells him that the Empire came for them but he can't. Meanwhile, Joona speaks with the Mon Calamari ship captain about their options. The Mon Calamari captain says that their refugee ship is vulnerable to the Imperial Star Destroyer.
The fallen mentor
F prepares to depart in Ron's shuttle with Lulu serving as pilot. She tells Lulu to return to the ship once she is done. Ron insists on coming along on the pretext of pretending to turn in the fugitive Jedi and to claim his reward. Upon arriving at the Imperial Star Destroyer's hangar, Ron pretends that he has captured F and seeks to ingratiate himself with an Imperial officer, who orders that F be brought into Zero's chamber. Two stormtroopers escort F into a simulator chamber.
Inside the simulation chamber, F encounters her former master Shad-Rah Varcanella, who now goes by the name "Zero." His eyes are a glowing red. Zero holds the flower that his former Padawan left by his grave. F expresses shock at seeing her late master alive, having watched him die during the First Battle of Geonosis. Zero acknowledges that he died but says that he was given a second chance to return. As a lightsaber hilt rises from the floor, Zero asks F to let him guide her again.
Meanwhile, Ron hides behind three crates, evading a stormtrooper patrol. Ron contacts Lulu, telling her to guide him to the control room. Lulu exits Ron's starship and races through the hangar. Back in the simulation chamber, Zero blames the Jedi for starting the Clone Wars and says that they must be destroyed. F reacts with shock and horror that her former master has fallen to the Dark side of the Force. Zero offers his former Padawan the opportunity to become his Padawan again and to correct her "misguided ways." Zero demands that she choose to submit and live or die as a Jedi.
When F hesitates, Zero demands that she take up the lightsaber and fight him. F refuses to fight her former master, prompting him to ask if she will run away again. He reminds her that she ran away from being a Jedi and from the war. He accuses F of running from herself and condemns the Jedi for starting the Clone Wars. He is angry that F fled the war after he sacrificed his life to protect her. Expressing his hatred for F, Zero lunges at her with his red lightsaber. F instinctively picks up her yellow lightsaber and intercepts his blade.
Fight and flight
Meanwhile, Ron plants explosives in the Imperial Star Destroyer's reactor chamber. As a stormtrooper pursues him, he asks Lulu to unlock the door ahead. Zero advances on F, who dodges his blades. F thanks her master for saving her life and resolves to continue to protect people, like he once taught her. Zero responds that the people she was seeking to protect have turned her in. He asks F why she would lay down her life for "weaklings."
Elsewhere, Ron reaches his starship with Lulu. When a stormtrooper spots them, he activates a series of carbonite bombs that denotate in the Star Destroyer's reactor core, causing the ship's power to shut down. F disagrees with Zero's logic about saving the people and counters that peace is only created by supporting each other. She says that her master sacrificed his life living according to the ideals of the Jedi and she vows to continue to live as her master taught her.
F charges at Zero with her lightsaber as the floor is revealed to be a bed of red roses. However, she is no match for her former master's lighstaber skills. He slices off her legs and lower right arm. Though outmatched in combat and seriously wounded, F reveals that she has one final trick up her sleeve: a carbonite bomb she planted on her master. The bomb detonates, enveloping him in carbonite. Meanwhile, the carbonite bombs trigger a reactor meltdown in the Star Destroyer's engine room. The Imperial officers react with shock as the Star Destroyer begins losing power.
Over the intercom, Ron tells the other refugees including Leon, Joona and the Mon Calamari captain to take advantage of the crippled Star Destroyer by fleeing into hyperspace. Ron tells Joona to look after Leon while he deals with unfinished business. The Mon Calamari captain takes the refugee ship into hyperspace. In the simulation chamber, F experiences a happy memory of her former master and prepares to meet her end. However, she is rescued by Ron, who arranges with Lulu to pick them up.
Aboard Ron's shuttle, F thanks Ron for saving her. When Ron apologizes for getting her into this mess, she tells him that she is grateful and uses her left hand to shake his hand. Ron's shuttle joins the others in escaping into hyperspace.
