Plot summary

Lost in space

Lah Kara and Ethan's Jedi starship is being pursued by a larger Jedi Hunter ship piloted by Anda. Kara and Ethan are unable to shake off the bandit ship. While Juro calculates a hyperspace route, Anda recognizes the Jedi ship and orders his troops led by Unda to prepare to breach the ship's hull. A laser cannon blast pierces the Jedi starship's hull, sucking Kara into space. Kara is shielded from the vacuum of space by a bubble.

Before the Jedi starship can jump into hyperspace, Anda's bandit ship fires a homing beacon. The two ships plunge into hyperspace, leaving Kara behind. In space, Kara experiences a flashback of her childhood. She attempts to use the Force to move rocks but struggles. Her father, Lah Zhima, encourages her not to give up. Kara is despondent but her father reassures her that she needs to unblock her thoughts. As she slips into unconsciousness, Kara experiences another flashback of her father being taken captive by a Sith acolyte.

Rescued by Teto

In the present, Kara drifts through space into an asteroid field. She is sighted by Teto, a diminutive service droid with large eyes, who pulls her aboard his abandoned starship. Upon awakening, Kara panics and flees from Teto, who tries to tell her that he means her no harm. Still experiencing a flashback into her past, Kara waves her lightsaber. When she realizes her surroundings, she deactivates her lightsaber.

The droid pleads with Kara to help Teto's master, explaining that he and his master were fleeing a war on Kaamui. While traveling through space, their starship was attacked and damaged. After they crashed in an asteroid field, Teto's master became ill and is resting in a bacta tank to recover. Kara recalls that Kaamui is a place that she learnt about in her history lessons. Teto thinks that centuries have passed and explains that bandits have raided their starship for materials numerous times.

Teto and his droid friends fought back but were no match for the bandits, leaving him as the sole survivor. Teto tells Kara that the path to his master's bacta tank has been blocked by a fallen statue for a long time. Teto has not seen his master since the statue was toppled. Taking pity on the droid, Kara offers to help the droid. Teto thanks the Jedi for her help.

Jedi to the rescue

Meanwhile, the droid 99-99 ("Four Nines") repairs the hull damage on the Jedi starship. Ethan thanks the droid and tells Four Nines to return the ship. He tells the other Jedi Homen and Margrave Juro that the homing beacon has been destroyed, minimizing the risk of being followed. Juno says their next plan is to go back and rescue Kara. When Ethan asks if she is safe out there, Juro reassures his comrades that Kara is strong in the Force. When Homen asks if Kara is stronger than Juro, the Margrave replies that Kara has yet to learn how to control her Force powers, making it necessary for the Jedi to guide her so that she does not fall to the dark side of the Force. While Ethan leaves to make repairs, Juro hopes that Kara stays strong.

Befriending Teto

Elsewhere, Kara and Teto struggle to remove the fallen statue but are unable to move it physically. Heeding her father's words, Kara uses the Force to lift the fallen statue, clearing a path on the staircase. Kara collapses from exertion and asks Teto if he will be able to see his master. Teto climbs up the staircase and leads Kara up to his master's bacta tank. Teto's master is a Cerean who is connected to a breathing apparatus inside the tank. Teto believes that Kara is the Jedi who would save his master. Kara apologizes that she is not a Jedi and reveals that Teto's master died many years ago when his life support system failed.

Kara introduces herself to Teto, explaining that she and her friends are searching for her kidnapped father. Teto thanks Kara for reuniting him with his master. Out of gratitude, Teto promises to help Kara reunite her friends. The two hug each other. When Kara's stomach groans in hunger, Teto offers to cook a meal for her. He serves her a delicious red broth, which she enjoys. The Force spirit of Teto's master briefly watches over the two new friends.

Over a meal, Teto asks Kara why people fight wars. Kara says that her father Zhima said that is because the galaxy is engulfed in fear and hate. She adds that they must help those in need in order to help guide the galaxy back to the path of good. Teto says that her father was a good man and that she should become a Jedi. When Kara sinks in doubt, Teto asks if she is all right.

Kara says she does not believe that she is worthy to become a Jedi because she failed to stop her father from being kidnapped. Teto reassures her that only someone who is truly strong has the ability to reveal their weakness to others. Teto says that this was a lesson that his late master taught him. He reassures Kara that learning to overcome one's weakness is part of the process of becoming a Jedi. Kara agrees with Teto's advice and promises that she will get stronger.

The bandits return

While studying a holomap, Kara deduces that Teto's master's starship is stuck in an asteroid field. Teo explains that the asteroid field is far from civilian transport routs and that hardly any starships come here. Kara suggests creating a signal that can be see from far away. Shortly later, they hear the sound of a starship docking inside Teto's starship's hangar. While peering through a hatch, Kara recognizes the new starship as the bandit ship that attacked her Jedi starship earlier.

Anda addresses his grunts, telling them that he has detected life signs aboard the abandoned starship. When Unda queries about a 100-million-credit bounty for a lone Jedi, Anda explains that Nawaam is committed to exterminating all Jedi. Unda describes Nawaam as insufferable but is eager to collect the bounty. Anda orders their troops to capture the Jedi alive in order to lure the others out of hiding.

Teto asks Kara if the bounty hunters are after her. When Kara says they resemble the people who kidnapped her father, Teto vows not to let any harm come to Kara, and to fight for her. Kara says she is grateful. As the grunts march into the abandoned starship, Kara baits them and pretends to surrender. As the grunts approach her, one of them triggers a laser tripwire that activates several hidden blaster emplacements that take them out. Teto knocks out one of the bandit grunts and the two celebrate.

Escape and sacrifice

However, their celebration is short-lived. Anda and Unda use flying daggers to take out the hidden blaster emplacements. Anda tells Kara that it is pointless to resist and demands that she surrender. When Kara demands to know where her father is, Unda asks who she is talking about. Anda replies that Kara is referring to the man that Bee-Toh captured, and deduces that Kara is his daughter. Kara activates her lightsaber. Unda hurls his helmet at her, but she slices through it with her lightsaber. Unda then fights Kara with his electrostaff, but the girl drives him back.

While Teto resolves to help his Jedi friend, Anda joins Unda in fighting Kara. Working together, the two hunters corner her and knock Kara's lightsaber our of a hand. Before they can capture her, Teto charges into the fight with Kara's lightsaber. One of the bandits slices off the droid's left leg with his electrostaff. However, Teto has one trick up his sleeve and temporarily blinds the Jedi hunters with a flash grenade. While the two hide under the tree, the two hunters split up.

Teto places Kara inside an escape pod. He uses his remaining energy to power up the escape pod despite Kara's protests. Before ejecting the escape pod, Teto wishes that the Force will be with Kara. Unda arrives too late to stop Kara from escaping. While Anda pursues the Jedi child in his bandit starship, Teto retreats to the command bridge and activates the ship's self-destruct mechanism. He transmits a message telling Kara that she is the galaxy's last hope before his ship self-destructs, taking out the hunters and their bandit ship.

Ethan and the other Jedi arrive in their starship. Ethan radios Kara, who intercepts his transmission through her escape pod. The Jedi rescue Kara's escape pod. Aboard the Jedi starship, she recounts her story to Ethan, Juro and Homen. Kara tells them about the bounty hunters and the Teto's sacrifice. While Juro confers with the other Jedi about the threat posed by Nawaam, Kara grieves over Teto's passing and hugs 99-99, who comforts her. She resolves to be a great Jedi who will bring back peace to the galaxy.
