"In the last weeks alone, the defense coalition has engaged the Nihil on Carlac, Magaveene, and in the Dreighton Nebula."
―Avar Kriss[2]

In 231 BBY,[3] forces of the Galactic Republic's Republic Defense Coalition[2] and Jedi Order led by[1] Jedi Master[4] and Marshal Avar Kriss[1] engaged the Nihil pirate organization on Magaveene, an astronomical object[2] located in the Magaveene system[1] within the Prefsbelt sector of the Outer Rim.[5] The battle was part of the Jedi and Republic's response—known as Operation: Counterstrike—to the atrocity carried out by the Nihil on[1] the Outer Rim planet[4] Valo, where it destroyed the Republic Fair being held there.[1]

As the battle was ongoing, the Frozian[1] Jedi Knight[2] Nooranbakarakana was sent to assist Kriss with a drift of Jedi Vector starfighters from the Republic space station Starlight Beacon.[1] The engagement ultimately resulted in victory for the Jedi and Republic forces.[2] Later that year,[3] Kriss mentioned the Magaveene engagement while updating Jedi and defense coalition members aboard Starlight Beacon of the status of Operation Counterstrike shortly before the Battle of Galov.[2]

Behind the scenes

The engagement on Magaveene was first mentioned in flashbacks in The High Republic: Tempest Runner, a 2021 audio drama written by Cavan Scott and published as a part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's[6] Phase I.[7]
