Plot summary
Jedi Padawan and aspiring pirate Sav Malagan is on an Eirami military command ship above Jedha, where a battle is raging. Having gone undercover to save her hero Maz Kanata from criminal gang Dank Graks, she has just learned her cover has been blown: Dank Grak and Sav’s new friend Saya Keem has just revealed that she and the other Graks have known about her affiliations with both Maz and the Jedi the whole time, and that Grand Grak Arkik Von had ordered Saya to keep Sav distracted on Jedha while he carried out a hostile takeover of Maz’s castle on Takodana. Having fought and then abandoned Saya, Sav is discouraged that she doesn’t have what it takes to be a pirate or a Jedi, and heads back down to the moon’s surface to regroup with the rest of Maz’s crew and inform them of their leader’s whereabouts.
Maz’s crew races towards Takodana on their ship the Venomed Scabbard, and, feeling out of options, Sav contacts her Jedi Master Kaktorf for help. Kaktorf refuses, as the Jedi must remain neutral, and according to him, turf wars between pirates are none of the Jedi’s business. When it arrives to Takodana, the Scabbard is gunned down by guided torpedoes, and the crew is shot at by an army of Von’s enforcer droids on the ground. The crew is saved by Maz’s pirate associate Bumblehead Bim and his crew, who take them to his hideout. After Bim informs Sav just how outnumbered and outgunned by droids they are, she chooses to sneak into Maz’s castle alone, feeling like everything that has happened is her fault.
Sav is caught by the Dank Graks, consisting of Cosian Lavalox Verzen, Muun Drrn and their Geonosian leader Arkik Von, who has somehow gotten his hands on half of Sav’s lightsaber after she had previously given it to pirate hunter Raf Thatchburn. Having lost confidence in herself, Sav surrenders, and is apprehended.
