"This disc is all you need to crush the Jedi and win the war. Take it to the separatist council at once."
"Yes, my lord."
Palpatine and Grievous — 20?cb=20250116042720 ▶️ (file info)[3]

In 20 BBY,[4] the Jedi Order undertook a mission to recover the Galactic Republic's secret battle plans, which Chancellor Palpatine had given to Separatist General Grievous to take to the planet Geonosis. During the mission, R2-D2 fell into the droid factory's gear system, which jammed and blew it up.[3]

Prelude

During the Clone Wars, Chancellor Palpatine stole Republic Battle Plans and presented them to General Grievous with the task of delivering them to the Separatist Council.[3]

Notes and references

  1. "Crisis on Coruscant" places the Mission to Recover the Republic's Battle Plans one year before the Battle of Coruscant, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 19 BBY. Therefore, the Mission took place in 20 BBY. Star Wars: The Clone Wars: Character Encyclopedia - Join the Battle! places the events of "Pursuit of Peace" to twenty-one years before the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, which corresponds to 21 BBY per Timelines. Therefore, the latest known event in 21 BBY was the Bombing of Coruscant's central power distribution grid, which must've taken place before the Mission.
  2. "Crisis on Coruscant" features Phase I clone trooper armor, meaning that it takes place before the introduction of Phase II clone trooper armor in "Water War."
