"We can't go back to Jakku! We need to get outta this system!"
Finn[5]

The Jakku system was a star system located in a barely populated sector[3] within the Western Reaches of the galaxy's Inner Rim[10] that contained the planet Jakku[6] and its two moons.[7]

History

One year after the Battle of Endor, the Galactic Empire made a last stand in the system, with a giant battle that raged above Jakku.[11] Thirty years later, the system was visited by the First Order's Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Finalizer, acting on a lead that a map to Luke Skywalker existed on the planet. The Millennium Falcon, piloted by Rey, Finn, and BB-8, escaped from the planet to be captured by the Eravana within the system. A conflict occurred onboard between Han Solo, Chewbacca and the fugitives with members of the Guavian Death Gang and Kanjiklub, and three rathtars. The group finally departed the system as Solo sent the Falcon into hyperspace directly from within the Eravana's docking bay.[5]

Behind the scenes

"Told you we should have double-checked the Western Reaches."
―Han Solo, to Chewbacca[5]

The comic The High Republic — The Blade 1 incorrectly places Jakku in the Tashtor sector near Takodana,[12] though all other sources contradict this.[13] Jakku has consistently been stated to fall in the Western Reaches,[5] but the Star Wars: The Galactic Explorer's Guide's map of the Western Reaches excluded Jakku.[14] Author Jason Fry has stated that the Explorer's Guide map should not be taken as overriding other sources, and that the Western Reaches do include Jakku.[15]
