Opening crawl

REMASTERED
Part VI
It is a time of instability in the galaxy as rebel
forces battle the Galactic Empire for freedom.
But instability can lead to opportunity for
those with the know-how and lack of scruples
to let them take advantage of it.

Rogue archaeologist Doctor Chelli Aphra would
typically be one such individual. But she's been
blackmailed into the servitude of the pyshoctic
droid crime lord Triple-Zero--most recently to
steal his old memories from the Tarkin
Initiative.

Aphra had a plan to board the Imperial ship
Hivebase-1 with rebel leader Hera Syndulla
held hostage, but everything went wrong. Now
at the desired Tarkin Initiative, can the Doctor
and her crew survive this encounter and escape
with what they came for?

Plot summary

Under heavy fire inside Hivebase-1's data core, Dr. Aphra concocts a desperate escape. Arming General Hera Syndulla, Aphra initiates a plan to steal the station's data while simultaneously setting the hijacked Rebel ship on a collision course with the base. The Imperial commander diverts all power to weapons, but discovers the firing patterns have been renamed. When the names are read aloud over the comms, they trigger dozens of explosive tookas Aphra had hidden throughout the station, causing the entire Hivebase to detonate catastrophically.

In the aftermath, Imperial Inspector Tolvan records a sanitized log, framing the disaster as a lesson learned and blaming the responsible parties while positioning herself for a promotion. Meanwhile, Aphra gives the stolen data to Hera, who grants her a ship just to be rid of her. It is then revealed that Tolvan had disguised herself as one of Aphra's crew to stay with her. The two share a brief romantic interlude before Aphra leaves, revealing her full name—Chelli Lona Aphra—as a parting warning.

Aphra delivers a copy of the data to the droid 0-0-0, who reveals his true goal: he orchestrated the entire affair to prove that Aphra is just as ruthless and manipulative as he is, listing her many betrayals as evidence of her "talent." Just as Aphra protests, they are ambushed. Tolvan's log reveals her real mission was to dismantle Triple-Zero's crime syndicate, and her troops descend on the droids.

The troopers also capture Aphra, who Tolvan had secretly bugged. In a final act of complex loyalty, Tolvan has Aphra sent to the low-risk Accresker Jail under a fake name, simultaneously imprisoning and protecting her. The final twist is revealed when both the Rebels and Triple-Zero discover their copies of the data are locked behind a powerful encryption that demands a ransom for access, confirming Aphra had outplayed everyone.
