Plot summary
On an unknown planet, Sith apprentice Darth Maul infiltrates the fortress of a governor and assassinates him and his entire elite garrison with ease. After leaving on his ship the Scimitar, Maul is contacted by his master Darth Sidious who reminds Maul that his only task was to eliminate the governor; the Sith's success depends on strategy just as much as strength. He is given his next mission, which is to go to a forgotten Sith temple on the Outer Rim world Ah Re Won and control his rage by meditating in stillness and quiet until Sidious arrives.
On Ah Re Won, Darth Maul arrives and is greeted by an innkeeper who offers a room and two meals a day for only two credits. When she asks what else he could want, Maul responds with peace and quiet. Venturing off into the forest, Maul locates the ruins of an ancient Sith temple and begins to meditate. Later, the village's Sullustan mayor pays the innkeeper a visit and informs her that she's three months behind on payments. When the innkeeper unable to fully pay up, the mayor begins to try and force her out by tearing down her building, and when he tries to burn it down, he is met by Maul who was disturbed by the racket.
The mayor meets a grizzly fate at Maul's hands, and the next day multiple security droids take notice of the mayor's absence. As they search the town, Maul spots a large native beast called a Karafankata digging up and maiming the mayor's corpse. Maul has no problem with this since it takes the problem of the missing mayor off his hands. The next day, a drunken group arrives looking for a good time and immediately refuse the innkeeper's offers, preferring to stay in the fancier hotel. When they go into the forest, the party's leader Prince Afolonkin stumbles across the tracks of a Karafankata and clumsily damages the ruins of the Sith temple, angering Maul.
Darth Sidious takes joy in Darth Maul's destruction.
Later that night, Prince Afolonkin prepares his hunting party to search after the beast, but when they find it protecting its babies, they are ambushed by Darth Maul who picks them off with his lightsaber one by one. They are cut down, granting Maul some time of peace. The following morning, a convoy of ships and tanks arrive. The father of Prince Afolonkin, the Pirate King of Sector Nine, fires upon the hotel with a tank until the security droids arrive. The king questions where his son and his group is, but is informed that he is likely dead; the hunter became the hunted.
Furious that his son died, he looks for people to blame and gets angered at Alma since she supposedly "stood by while his son died". He orders the tank to fire at her inn. Alma flees to her ship and tries to get away. The Pirate King orders his men to open fire on the starship, but he turns around to find many of them dead at the hands of the Darth Maul. When the Pirate King sounds the charge to kill Maul, the Sith apprentice uses the Force to weave his way through and dodge their attacks, allowing him to swiftly take them out. This allows for the Innkeeper to escape unharmed, and while the remaining few pirates try to flee, Maul uses the Force to hurl a tank at their ship, obliterating the remaining few.
Having finally achieved peace and quiet, Maul returns to the Sith Temple to mediate. Darth Sidious soon arrives and is pleased with the destruction, as it allowed for Maul to meditate in stillness and quiet.
