"I have friends everywhere."
―Network code phrase[13]

The Axis network,[18] as it was dubbed by the Imperial Security Bureau,[19] was a secret spying operation[2] and resistance network[1] that was part of[17] the then-informal[20] Rebel Alliance.[17] Formed in 15 BBY,[16] it was led by Luthen Rael from his covert headquarters in the Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest gallery on the Imperial capital of Coruscant during the Imperial Era.[1] Rael's network was critical to establishing collaboration in the early rebellion.[15] Kleya Marki was Rael's second-in-command,[3] working as his emissary, messenger, and enforcer.[2] Meanwhile, Luthen sought to build and expand the network with Imperial Senator Mon Mothma[4] of Chandrila,[21] who used her family funds to help the network grow[10] and had established a rebel cell of her own,[22] and other contacts throughout the galaxy, including Cassian Jeron Andor, Saw Gerrera, Anto Kreegyr,[1] Maya Pei,[5] and Carro Rylanz.[23] Vel Sartha led a rebel infiltration team for the Aldhani heist,[4] and took later missions from Marki,[1] while ISB Supervisor Lonni Jung acted as a mole within the Bureau and fed intel to Rael.[24]

In 5 BBY,[25] operatives Vel Sartha and Taramyn Barcona led the heist on Aldhani, organized by Luthen Rael, with the goal of stealing the sector's quarterly payroll of more than 80 million credits. Assisting with the heist were network contacts Cassian Andor, Karis Nemik, Cinta Kaz, Arvel Skeen, and the rebel spy Lieutenant Gorn.[4]

After receiving information from Lonni Jung about the development of a weapon during the Galactic Civil War, Rael returned to his gallery to destroy his equipment. Upon being cornered by Dedra Meero, who had been searching for him and his network for years, Rael attempted to take his own life with a Nautolan bleeder—a job which was finished when Kleya Marki disconnected him from his life support at the Lina Soh Hospital.[14] The Axis network's final piece of intelligence would be shared by Cassian Andor to Alliance High Command after he rescued Marki from Coruscant, leading to the approval of a mission to the Ring of Kafrene to meet Tivik to discover more about the weapon.[15]
