"It's a Nautolan bleeder. Sixty centuries old. Probably ceremonial. Only three others have ever been found."
―Luthen Rael[2]

Nautolan bleeders were a type of ceremonial dagger forged by the ancestors of the Nautolan species. By 1 BBY, only four of the ancient daggers had been found. Axis network leader Luthen Rael had one of uncertain provenance in his gallery, Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest, on the planet Coruscant. He used it to stab himself when Imperial Security Bureau Supervisor Dedra Meero visited the gallery and revealed she knew he was a rebel.

Description

"Is it real?"
"We still don't know. The tension mounts."
―Deedra Meero and Luthen Rael[2]

Nautolan bleeders were a type of ceremonial[1] stone[3] dagger forged by the ancient ancestors of the Nautolan, an amphibious species[1] native to the planet Glee Anselm.[4] The blades were a pearlescent white with an uneven surface and the same material was found at the end of the hilt, which was otherwise green and black in color and depicted a Nautolan-like face. The scabbard for the dagger matched the hilt in colors and texture.[1]

History

"No. No. No, no, no. All units engage. I need a med-team. Now!"
―Meero realizes that Luthen Rael has stabbed himself with the Nautolan bleeder[2]

By 1 BBY, the daggers were thought to be sixty centuries old and only four had ever been found. One of these was located in[2] Galactic Antiquities and Objects of Interest,[1] a gallery on the planet Coruscant used as a front by rebel Axis network leader Luthen Rael.[2] The gallery's bleeder seemed almost too good to be true,[1] and Rael was uncertain of its provenance. When Imperial Security Bureau Supervisor Dedra Meero entered the gallery and asked if all the objects were real, Rael showed her the bleeder and explained its uncertain authenticity. When Meero then revealed that she knew Rael was a rebel, he stabbed himself with the bleeder before collapsing. After he was removed from the gallery and placed on life support in Lina Soh Hospital, the Nautolan bleeder was bagged as evidence by a gloved crime scene technician. Rael ultimately died from the wound caused by the bleeder once his assistant Kleya Marki took him off life support.[2]

Behind the scenes

A Nautolan bleeder appeared in "Make It Stop," the tenth episode of the live-action Disney+ series Andor,[2] which aired on May 13, 2025.[5]
