- "There comes a time when refusing to stop violence can no longer be called nonviolence. We cease to be objectors and become bystanders. At some point, morality must be wedded to action, or else it's no more than mere… vanity."
- ―Mon Mothma
A rebel cell was established by Senator Mon Mothma of Chandrila.[1] Mothma worked alongside Luthen Rael to establish an intelligence and rebel network, which she also helped fund.[5]
Mon Mothma's rebel cell had joined with Senator Bail Organa's resistance movement to form a core element of the nascent Alliance to Restore the Republic,[3] which at the time was referred to as simply the "Alliance" or the "Rebellion" by Mothma.[6]
In 2 BBY,[2] Mothma defected from the Imperial Senate and publicly declared her allegiance to the rebellion against the Galactic Empire. This declaration sparked the official formation of the Alliance to Restore the Republic,[7] of which Mothma became the leader.[8]
Behind the scenes
The establishment of Mon Mothma's rebel cell was first referenced in the timeline of events in Star Wars: On the Front Lines, a reference book by Daniel Wallace.[1] In Star Wars Legends, Mothma similarly founded the Chandrilan resistance, which first appeared in the video game Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.[9]
