ISB Supervisor, or simply supervisor, was a title given to Imperial Security Bureau officers of the Investigations department. In their role, a supervisor supervised intelligence activities and were responsible for delegating assets with assigned sectors. They maintained a staff of ISB Attendants and were led by Major Lio Partagaz.
Description
ISB Supervisors were responsible for intelligence and security duties within their sectors.
ISB Supervisors,[3] or simply supervisors, were Imperial Security Bureau officers[1] of the Investigations branch[2] who were tasked with managing intelligence activities and delegating assets within their assigned sectors,[1] which were drawn and assigned by Major Lio Partagaz.[4] Specific investigations could also fall under a Supervisor's purview[5] at Partagaz's discretion.[6] Further, he was allowed to order the exchange of duties between officers if he thought one was a better fit for another's assignment, allowing the oversight of sectors[4] or cases to change hands.[6]
As ISB officers, ISB supervisors wore the standard uniforms with white tunics and black pants.[6] Silver epaulets and a silver chain were added for formal occasions.[7] Single-rowed rank insignia plaques were used to denote their ranks, with captains using four blue tiles and lieutenants having three blue tiles.[1] Other supervisors made use of a single row plaque with two red tiles followed by two blue tiles.[8]
Dedra Meero was an ambitious ISB Supervisor.
ISB Supervisors maintained their own staff of junior ISB officers, the ISB Attendants. These officers utilized a gray tunic rather than white, and used two single-rowed blue tiles.[1] An attendant could also rise through the ranks and become a supervisor themself as a promotion.[5] The ISB Supervisors worked in the ISB Central Office on Coruscant, and had their own small offices within the building. Should their duty call for it, they would also leave Coruscant to personally handle a situation on-the-ground.[1] Within the central office, ISB Supervisors met as the ISB Board,[9] which reported to Major Partagaz. Partagaz chaired meetings with the supervisors[1] and, on occasion, their attendants.[10] Partagaz received briefings from the supervisors, while also ordering reports to be drafted and assignments to be completed.[1] Colonel Wullf Yularen attended emergency meetings at times.[10]
ISB Supervisors found their authority increased with the passage of the Public Order Resentencing Directive, which enabled them greater access to Imperial Army and Imperial Navy resources. The concurrent Imperial Emergency Act dealt a blow to the influence of supervisors on an individual level by allowing any of their number access to their counterparts' sector data without needing to go through that sector's supervisor first.[4]
History
ISB Supervisor Lieutenant Blevin responded to the Ferrix incident, which occurred in his area of responsibility.
In 5 BBY, during the Imperial Era,[11] Lieutenant Blevin supervised six sectors, including the Morlana sector, Lieutenant Grandi's area included the Gaulus sector, Lieutenant Lonni Jung's area of supervision included the Abrion sector,[1] the ambitious[12] Lieutenant Dedra Meero was responsible for two sectors, including the one containing Sev Tok, and Captain Lagret's supervision included Arvala-Six.[1]
Following the Ferrix incident, which occurred in the Morlana sector, ISB Supervisors met with Major Partagaz in a standard briefing. Supervisor Grandi provided an update on the Ryloth sector, stating that the number of detentions were expected to increase and thus required a larger blackline budget. Major Partagaz accused Grandi to be vague when pressed on what the new resources would be used for and demanded specifics. Supervisor Lagret provided an update on the conflict in Arvala-Six, but had not yet completed the assigned memorandum. Supervisor Jung provided an elaboration on more protection for traffic travelling to the Abrion sector.[1]
Behind the scenes
A version of the ISB Supervisor rank plaque
ISB Supervisors first appeared in "Aldhani," the fourth episode of the first season of the live action web-TV series Star Wars: Andor.[1] The 2023 reference book Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide contradicts the rank plaques depicted for ISB supervisors presented in the TV series, with Dawn of Rebellion establishing that ISB supervisors with rank plaques with three blue tiles were captains, despite such officers holding the rank of lieutenant in the series.
