Sectioning

Articles on certain types of subject have an established layout. These are listed below.

Musical theme articles

Musical Theme Articles

Musical theme articles are to be organized using the following sections. Each of these sections may be subsectioned as necessary.
  1. Conception and development deals with the origin of the theme (when, by whom, where, and for what it was written), the writing process of the music and, if applicable, lyrics, the release of the theme into the public, and the musicians who performed the piece.
  2. Summary gives a detailed summary of the entire piece in its most complex, original form. This section should be divided in sub-sections based on scenes in the primary piece of media in which the theme is utilized.
  3. Use provides an overview of the the usage of the theme in all of Star Wars media and popular culture. This should be divided into five sub-sections, only using the ones necessary. These are "In the soundtracks," "In the movies," "In the Expanded Universe," "In other media and merchandise," and "In popular culture." These sub-sections may be disregarded if using them would result in unnecessary short sections of one or two sentences.
  4. Reception discusses awards won, sales performance, and ratings information. Response, reaction, and reception to the work by Lucasfilm and its employees, including creators who participated in the project's creation, should be included in this section. However, fan reviews and opinions should only be discussed in relation to Star Wars creators' commentary of their contents. If no such information is available, this section need not be included.
Each of these sections may be further subdivided if necessary. Music clips using a Music1 tag are also appropriate for replacing quotes in the "Summary" section and subsections. This also applies to the leading quote of the article if no quote is available. Also, per copyright laws, full lyrics are not allowed.

Published works

Real-World Media Articles

Articles on published works and other Star Wars media are to be organized using the following sections. These sections, with the exception of the Credits and Appearances section, may be further subdivided if necessary.
  1. If the article is about an individual work that has a publisher's summary, then it should be included in sourced section entitled Publisher's summary. Similarly, television media should include the official description text from the relevant streaming series or platform in an Official description section.
    • If the promotional summary on the back cover of the work differs from the official publisher's summary, it should also be documented in this section, and each summary should be prefaced by their source.
    • If the publisher's summary differs between various websites, precedence should be granted to the website of the work's official publisher over other sources, and the American version of websites over other versions.
    • If the official summary or description changes over the period before a work's release, only the latest summary should be documented. Any major changes that remove or change details not present in the final release of a product should be covered in the Release and reception section.
  2. If the work includes an opening crawl, it should be listed in an Opening crawl section using OpeningCrawl. If different versions or editions of the work have different opening crawls, they should also be included here.
  3. Articles should have either a Plot summary or Contents section, depending on the following rules:
    • Individual narrative works should have a Plot summary section that summarizes the plot of the work, written in-universe and in the present tense.
    • Individual works that are presented as in-universe documents or media, such as Jedi vs. Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force and the HoloNet News website, should summarize the work in a Contents section.
    • If the article is about an unabridged audiobook or scriptbook, the plot summary should use Plot-link directing to the original work's article.
    • Articles on groupings of narrative works, such as series and story arcs, should also summarize the plot of those works in a Plot summary section, but in a more condensed fashion.
    • Non-narrative media that collects other material, such as magazine issues, comic anthologies, book collections, and trade paperbacks should detail the collected media in a Contents section.
    • For all other non-narrative works, the Contents section should summarize the contents of the media.
  4. Gameplay is a section reserved for games such as video games, board games, card games, and roleplaying games. It discusses the playable features of the game and how the game is experienced by the player(s). If applicable, it can also discuss how player choices and game mechanics affect the storyline. This section should be written out-of-universe and in the present tense.
  5. Development discusses background, events, and decisions that brought about the development of the work. It also discusses ideas, decisions, and concepts discarded by the author(s)/developer(s) throughout the production of the work. If a surplus of information exists, this section can be further divided into subsections, such as "Conception" and "Production." This and the following sections should be written out-of-universe and in the past tense.
  6. Release and reception discusses the work's publication and release, as well as awards won, sales performance, and ratings information. Response, reaction, and reception to the work by Lucasfilm Ltd. and its employees, including creators who participated in the project's creation, should be included in this section. However, fan reviews and opinions should only be discussed in relation to Star Wars creators' commentary of their contents. Home video releases of the work should also be covered in this section.
  7. Continuity discusses past continuity used/referenced/retconned by the work, continuity errors, and significant continuity created by the work that has been later used/referenced/retconned. This section should also cover factual errors in the work that are about real-world information.
  8. Adaptations and tie-in media discusses adaptations of the media, such as novelizations, comics and video game adaptations and other tie-in media, such as merchandising and accompanying publishing programs.
  9. Legacy is a section that discusses the impact of the work on later Star Wars media that are not already covered in the above Adaptations and tie-in media section and, if applicable, broader popular culture. If no such information is available, this section need not be included.
  10. Media is a section whose subsections vary depending on the type of media.
    • Articles on comic series should include an Issues subsection and make use of Prettytable to document issues, release dates, story arcs and collections, as illustrated here.
    • Articles on magazine series articles should include an Issues subsection to document the titles, release dates, and covers of the individual issues in a gallery tag, with the title and release date used as the caption for each issue's cover, as illustrated here.
    • For television series, a Seasons subsection should make use of Prettytable to document information such as the air dates and number of episodes for each season, as illustrated here.
    • For individual television seasons, an Episodes subsection should make use of Prettytable to display the title, air date, episode number, production number, and an image from the episode if applicable, as illustrated here.
    • Articles on multimedia projects should include an Installments section that uses Prettytable to document the titles, release dates, and formats of the individual works within the project, as illustrated here.
    • Articles on book series, video game series, and other series of interconnected works should include an Installments section to document information such as the release dates and authors of the individual works. If the works have individual covers, this information may be presented using a gallery tag to display the covers captioned by the individual works' information, though the captions must be properly referenced, as illustrated here.
    • Articles on novels, reference books and other media with ISBN numbers should list the various editions of the work in a subsection entitled Editions, as a bulleted list ordered by release date. Each edition should list their ISBN, release date, publisher, format and country in the following format: 9780593157718; January 5, 2021; Del Rey; US hardcover
    • Articles on individual works that have had multiple covers released should include a Cover gallery subsection with all available covers, including the infobox image and any unlettered or pre-release versions, in a gallery with appropriate captions. Cover images should be ordered in order of release, with the main cover first, and unlettered versions listed immediately after the lettered version, while preliminary or working title covers should be listed last. Additionally, the artist responsible for the cover should be listed in the caption for each cover if one exists.
    • Works such as card games and board games should include all applicable images of box and packaging art, as well as any official images of the contents and any accessories, in a Content gallery subsection.
    • Feature films and television media should list all available promotional posters in a Poster gallery subsection. Additionally, feature films should include a Cover gallery section for all home video releases of that film, with links to relevant articles as the captions if such articles exist.
    • Collected in is a bulleted list of any collections in which the work has appeared, such as trade paperbacks or short story collections. If not applicable, this section need not be included.
  11. Credits is a list of the work's credits. This section is reserved for individual films, television episodes, video games, audio dramas, and any other work with a similarly comprehensive credits section. It should not be used for works such as books, short stories, and comics, which should instead list authors, artists, etc, in their Development sections. This section uses Credits and should be ordered as described in the work's original credits. Any other cast or crew members whose identities were later discovered or revealed can be listed at the ends of their respective sections. Subjects noted in the Special Thanks section should link to an existing Wookieepedia article if available or a Wikipedia article if no Wookieepedia article is available. Articles shall not be created for subjects exclusively noted in this section.
  12. Appearances uses App to list in-universe subjects that appeared or were mentioned in the work
    • An Appearances section should not be included on an article if the related work was canceled or cut prior to its release, unless there are subjects that were confirmed to have planned appearances in the work according to a reliable source (in accordance with the Sourcing policy).
For each of the above sections, if no applicable information is available, the section need not be included.

Real-world person articles

Real-World Person Articles
Real-world person articles are to be organized using the following sections. Each of these sections may be subsectioned as necessary.
  1. Biography gives a detailed and comprehensive summary of the person's Star Wars career. With the exception of birth and death information, this section will limit its focus almost exclusively to the person's Star Wars contributions. The article may briefly note the highlights of a person's non-Star Wars career, where they are well known for a role or achievement outside of Star Wars. See Angela Morley and Gregory Manchess for examples on how brief this should be.
  2. Works gives a tabulated listing of the person's career works that is focused exclusively on Star Wars. The tables must contain Year and Title columns, with the possible addition of others, including but not limited to Contributions, Platforms, Format, and Notes. The subsections, as well as the content of the tables, must be organized in chronological order. Even in the instance where a person has only contributed to one media type, it must be subsectioned using the below subheadings:
    • Bibliography—for crediting books, written articles and comics.
    • Discography—for crediting music and audiobooks.
    • Filmography—for crediting video roles including film, television and online.
    • Gameography—for crediting tabletop or video game development.
    • Other works—for crediting other works that do not fall into the above, such as merchandise.
See WP:LG#Tables, Robin Pronovost#Works and Stewart McKenny#Works for examples on how to format these tables and headings.
  3. Awards and nominations gives a tabulated listing of an individual's nominations and awards, exclusively for their Star Wars works.
See Wookieepedia:Mofferences/May 25, 2019, Forum:CT:Real-world person articles (Part 1), Forum:CT:Real-world person articles (Part 2)

Real-world companies

Real-World Company Articles
Real-world companies articles are to be organized using the following sections. Each of these sections may be subsectioned as necessary.
  1. History gives a detailed and comprehensive summary of the company's history. With the exception of foundation and dissolution information, this section will limit its focus almost exclusively to the company's relation to the Star Wars franchise. The article may briefly note the highlights of a company, where they are well known for their products or services, and their achievement outside of Star Wars. See Maxis for an example on how brief this should be.
  2. Products or Services gives a tabulated listing of the company's products or services that is focused exclusively on Star Wars. The tables must contain Year and Title columns, with the possible addition of others, including but not limited to Contributions, Platforms, Format, and Notes. It must be organized in chronological order.
See WP:LG#Tables, Maxis#Products and Full Monty Catering#Services for examples on how to format these tables and headings.
  3. Awards and nominations gives a tabulated listing of a company's nominations and awards, exclusively for their Star Wars works.

Article indexing

Mediacat

In the instance two or more images, sound files, or animations on Wookieepedia originate from or were created by the article's subject, corresponding categories must be created. These must be linked to via the Mediacat template, which should be placed at the top of a given section, immediately below the section header. For articles on real-world media, the from=1 parameter must be used. The Mediacat template should be placed in the first section out of the following that exists on the given article: "Media," "Appearances," "Sources", "Notes and references," and finally "External links."

See Forum:CT:Mediacat in External links and Forum:CT:OOU Layout Guide 2: Electric Boogaloo

Conceptcat

For articles on media and real-world attractions that have art books dedicated to that media, the image category for the art book may also be linked to via the Conceptcat template, which should be placed below the Mediacat template. Additionally, video games, films, and television series that have significant concept art and a dedicated subcategory of Category:Concept art images may link to that category with the Conceptcat template.

Appearances

Example:

Appearances
The Appearances section is used in articles on out-of-universe media to list in-universe subjects that appear in said media.

  • The section is only necessary for articles on individual works, such as a single novel, comic, or episode. It should not be used for articles on collections of multiple works, such as a book trilogy, television series or season, comic book story arc or series.
    • An exception to this is for a series that has not yet been released, where its episodes or issues do not yet have articles. In that case, the information on the series' appearances may be contained within the series' article until such time that it can be moved to the appropriate episode or issue.
    • An additional exception to this rule is for collections that include unique content not originally printed in the collected material, such as Star Wars: Darth Vader - Dark Lord of the Sith Vol. 2, which includes concept art and unfinished panels from the Star Wars: Darth Vader (2017) comic series not printed in the original issues.
  • Use App to organize the list of subjects under the "Appearances" heading. See the usage notes on Template:App for more information.
    • If an official "Dramatis Personae" is provided, substitute |dramatis personae= and |other characters= for the current |characters= parameter.
    • For additional subsections such as "Languages", use bold-formatted headers under |miscellanea=.
    • Star Wars material that is considered part of both the Legends continuity and the new Star Wars canon should divide its use of the App template. Each subsection of the template should use the two alternate parameters—"c-characters" and "l-characters" for the Characters field—to list the canon and Legends appearances.
    • All parameters of the App template should be listed on their own line, as should the closing brackets for the template as a whole.
  • For real-world reference works such as Star Wars Year by Year: A Visual Chronicle and The Art of Solo: A Star Wars Story that discuss the real-world history of Star Wars media or otherwise focus primarily on behind-the-scenes information, the Appearances section may use OOUappearances in an Out-of-universe appearances subheader to document the real-world people, organizations, locations, and media that are mentioned in the work. If this subsection is present, the App template should be prefaced by an In-universe appearances subheader.
See Forum:CT:"Characters" or "Dramatis personae"?, Forum:CT:New continuity section, Forum:CT:Characters to Individuals (Again?), Forum:CT:Appearances lists, Forum:CT:Appearances revamp project, Forum:CT:MOS and LG updates, Forum:CT:Closing braces for templates, Forum:CT:App Template - Creatures/Species, Forum:CT:Collections vs. Collected In, and Forum:CT:OOU Layout Guide 2: Electric Boogaloo.

Sources

The Sources section in out-of-universe articles is a bulleted list of all officially licensed Star Wars media to mention the real-world article subject. Common examples include film, publishing, and video game credits; reference books; magazine articles; and StarWars.com news articles. This section works the same as the "Sources" section does for in-universe articles. With rare exceptions, no out-of-universe article should be created without either a Sources or External links section (see below for details on "External links").

Notes and references

External links

  • Ideally, real-world product articles, such as books or comics, will list at least one external link to an official product page from the publisher or manufacturer. If no such link exists, list the subject's Amazon.com product page. The Amazon page may be listed in addition to an official product page if it contains critical information not found on the product page, such as a publication date.
  • For articles on episodes of web series that premiered on YouTube, the article should list the original YouTube video in the External links section using the appropriate YouTube citation template for the channel that posted the video.

Fortnite

Due to the number of separate dedicated official experiences offered within Fortnite, some had received Star Wars content which was exclusively added in collaboration with each experience.

Content coverage

The following list specifies which Star Wars content should be covered in which article:

While some digital items, such as Jam Tracks, Outfits, and Car Bodies, can be used in multiple experiences throughout Fortnite, these separations was added to avoid unnecessary and redundant additions on multiple pages.

Exceptions and special cases

  • The same subject should be covered in more than one of the aforementioned articles if it filled a different function or role between each experience; for example, Darth Vader should be listed in both Fortnite and Fortnite Battle Royale because it's both an Outfit and a Boss NPC, respectively.
  • Subjects specified on the list may still be covered or mentioned briefly in another article when necessary to achieve comprehensive coverage.
