Pywikipedia bot error

Hey Xwing328. I tried setting up my new laptop to run C-3PO...and I'm running into that login error that popped up months ago. After confirming that the password is correct a number of times, login.py continues to fail. Do you remember the fix? --SparqMan Talk 22:09, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

  • Hey SparqMan. Find the line that looks something like if len(L) == 4: Change the == 4 to >= 4 and it should work. —Xwing328(Talk) 22:18, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Swell, that did the trick. Now I just need to get category.py to actually run instead of just printing the contents of the script when prompted with "category.py move". Grr. --SparqMan Talk 20:35, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Try category.py move -from:Category:XXX -to:Category:YYY I haven't moved any for awhile, but I think that's the right syntax. —Xwing328(Talk) 21:31, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Seems like any syntax attempt is generating print. I'll fiddle around with it. --SparqMan Talk 23:56, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Bot stuff

Is the "Cleanup, Formatting, Template fixes" thing a custom-written script? I notice it hasn't been run since September, and I'd like to use it on a few pages on a case-by-case basis now that I have a working bot. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 06:51, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

  • Yeah, it's custom written for fixes.py. I'll see if I can clean it up some, then I'll post it so you can work with it if you want. —Xwing328(Talk) 23:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
  • I just added the main portion of the script to User:Xwing328/Pywikipedia. Add it to your fixes.py file. You can run it on a specific page with: replace.py -fix:wookieepedia -page:PAGENAME —Xwing328(Talk) 00:42, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
    • Excellent, thanks. And I have just found that the line 'exceptions': [''], needs to be removed if you're running a recent Pywikipedia SVN version or it crashes. -- Darth Culator (Talk) 01:27, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
      • I usually just have it commented out. I guess I've never actually tried running it with nothing between the brackets. —Xwing328(Talk) 02:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
        • Ah. I just ran it like it was on your subpage. Either way, it works. That's all I care about. Thanks! :-) -- Darth Culator (Talk) 03:12, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

New bot issue

I know I must be getting on your nerves by now, but can you look at [1] and tell me why it's adding that div all of a sudden? I haven't updated my SVN copy of pywikipedia since before the 1.12 upgrade, so it's somehow related. At the very least, it should be possible to code a find-and-replace string that will delete it when found, but my attempts to do that have failed. Thanks! -- Darth Culator (Talk) 03:49, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

  • I haven't been able to figure out why it's doing that. I tested mine, and it doesn't seem to have that problem, and I haven't updated pywikipedia in quite some time. Here's a line to try messing around with in fixes.py. I'm not sure where all of the \'s for escape sequences need to go, but if I have time later, I'll test it out: (r'', r''), —Xwing328(Talk) 15:07, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
  • OK, well this line will work, but it might give you false matches, which would be pretty annoying (ie: it'll say it found a match and delete it, but there won't really be anything there). Hopefully somebody will update Pywikipedia if this doesn't work: (r'<div id=\"wikia-credits\"><br /><br /><small>From \[\[wikia:c:starwars\|Wookieepedia\]\], a \[\[wikia:\|Wikia\]\] wiki.</small></div>', r''), —Xwing328(Talk) 20:29, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Project Wormhead, March edition

A message from the project manager
Rolling along with User:Atarumaster88/Project Wormhead|Project Wormhead.
March rolled around fast for us, and I've been taking stock of the progress so far. A lot has happened, and I want to thank anyone who's contributed so far. You all are making this dream a possibility. For those of you who haven't yet gotten a chance to work on Wormhead, please do so. This project is only possible if everyone helps, and so if you can pitch in, please do. Despite the progress, we are still a little behind (and part of that is my fault-I hope to catch up in March), but it's nothing we can't recover from. This month is originally set for working on non-canon sources, Marvel, and I need one brave soul with the Holiday Special, some time, and a strong stomach to get the info from that if at all possible. However, don't let that stop you from contributing wherever you can and see fit. We also now have a bit of a sandbox to play with for the project: User:Atarumaster88/Wormhead Reloaded. I thank you all again for your commitment and am looking forward to a productive month. Cheers, Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 16:06, 18 January 2008 (UTC)

Mailing list

Hey, Xwing. I've set up a private administrator mailing list to help coordinate the current administrators of the site, and I am attempting to contact each administrator to get them to subscribe. You can subscribe here. My point with setting up this mailing list to get all of the administrators of Wookieepedia operating on the same page, and in a more unified fashion. Regardless of any personal differences that may exist between some members, I still feel that it is important that we are all operating on the same level, with regards to knowledge of the site, and new/upcoming stuff that is going to happen—so, basically, this is an attempt to coordinate us all in an effort to help keep us on the same page with regards to new policies, new ideas, announcements, discussions, etc. In my opinion, we're all on the same team and this will only help us to be a more organized and cohesive working unit—even more so than we currently are. I've already spoken with a few admins via IRC, and they have liked my point of this whole thing, and have thus signed up—I would really appreciate it you could do likewise :) Any questions about this, you know where you can reach me. April edition

A message from the project manager
Continuing on User:Atarumaster88/Project Wormhead|Project Wormhead!
Hello again! It's April, and that means it's time for an update. I avoided doing this on April 1st because of all the craziness going on, but here we are. There's no denying that we're behind. I'm very busy in RL and juggling several wiki-related projects also, so I haven't been contributing as much either. That's okay, though, as long as we catch up (i.e. summer, as a lot of folks will be out of school and all that.) There's also a new way to contribute, and something that everyone can do. Since we don't have a timeline of appearance/sources yet, I started one on the second page. I didn't give it a very large list to start with, so fill in the gaps whenever you see them. If someone wants to start doing a similar segment for sources, that'd be great. I hope that we'll get back on course with the expansions soon, but regardless, let's see how April plays out. Request

Hey, Xwing. I noticed on your collection subpage here that you have listed Star Wars Insider 26, 27, and 28. Now, I assume since you have them struck through that that means you have them? :P If you do happen to have those three, I'm looking for an article that spans the three of them in a three part series. If you do have them, could you let me know? Thanks, Greyman Jan.png (Talk) 23:51, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

  • Hey Grey, the ones struck through on the list are the ones I don't have yet. Sorry :( I'll have access to 28 once I go home next Saturday and can get you whatever information you want from that. —Xwing328(Talk) 01:21, 24 April 2008 (UTC)

A belated update on Project Wormhead User:Atarumaster88/Project Wormhead|Project Wormhead!
Sorry about the delay in getting this out. I was on vacation at the beginning of the month and forgot about it. First, let me thank a number of people for their efforts on the project this past month: Greyman, for his work on the Marvel expansions. Jaina Solo added information from Star Wars Union, and a couple other people have made smaller edits as well. That's very encouraging and I thank all of you for your help. For the moment, I have to say that Luke isn't my priority at the moment-I'm working pretty hard on finishing Wraith Squadron, but once that's done, I will be back to work . In other news, Project Wormhead has now surpassed the actual Luke Skywalker article in content and will soon pass up Palpatine. It'll probably take us another month to pass up Mr. Horn, though. Anyway, keep up the good work. Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 18:12, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Bot

In our Special pages we have an Uncategorized files list. It includes a large number of the images used for the random search icon. They all contain {{Notorphan|Template:Searchicons}}. I was wondering if it is possible to get a bot to add to all the pages with {{Notorphan|Template:Searchicons}} a [[Category:Search icons]] or some such to remove them from that list. Do you think that is possible? --Eyrezer 04:57, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

  • I'll check it out. —Xwing328(Talk) 05:00, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
  • I got 259 of them. Unless I notice some more that are easy to fix, any others will probably have to be done by hand. —Xwing328(Talk) 05:42, 19 May 2008 (UTC)
    • Fantastic. Much appreciated. --Eyrezer 08:29, 19 May 2008 (UTC)

Insider 49

No, you're not missing a joke... My comment was merely stating that, since the CT I was objecting to would spell disaster for my FAN Willrow Hood (specifically, Willrow Hood#Sources), I'd need someone with 49 to help me make an article on The Ultimate Empire Strikes Back Insider's Guide, apparently an article in Insider 49. Could you use your bot to change all the "Category:Personnel of Moff Sarne’s forces" to "Category:Personnel of Moff Sarne's forces"? The ' is the difference... --Eyrezer 03:41, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

  • Well it wasn't as easy as normal because the category script had trouble with the apostrophe, but I got it taken care of. —Xwing328(Talk) 04:18, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Much appreciated! --Eyrezer 06:31, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

    • Fair enough. I undid my revision of your edit. —Xwing328(Talk) 16:39, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
      • We seem to be meeting like this regularly these days :) --Eyrezer 22:32, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
  • Could you change [[Category:Letters]] to [[Category:Images of letters]] please? Cheers. --Eyrezer 11:05, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
    • Lol, I've got to be more careful. The first time I moved it to . —Xwing328(Talk) 18:21, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Typos

I am somewhat embarrassed about the number of corrections you made to Czulkang Lah. Not only am I English, and have yet to discover all the different American ways of spelling things, but I was also rushing to hammer out the article before I went away. Still, it's not really excusable as I see that a simple run through Microsoft Word or something would have made all the difference, something that I will always do in the future. Thanks for being patient and for your support. Harrar 10:06, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

  • No problem. Firefox underlines a lot of the words for me when they're misspelled anyways; of course, it also thinks a lot of the Star Wars names are wrong :P —Xwing328(Talk) 21:47, 1 June 2008 (UTC)

The latest on User:Atarumaster88/Project Wormhead|Project Wormhead!
It's summer and that means, at least for me, that a lot of things need to happen over the next couple months if Luke is going to be a GA this year. I don't even entertain any notions of FA, because there's simply too many obscure/minor appearances and sources. I will be working heavily on the novels, and I know others are focusing on comics, games, and whatever those Missions things fall under. Thanks Xwing. For this month, I'm going to hammer out the rest of the Young Jedi Knights series first and then progress to the Bantam novels whenever I get to them. That means if you want to work on a Bantam novel, it probably should be done this month. ;-) I hope everyone enjoys their summer and finds a chance to participate. I definitely appreciate all the work that's been done so far. Cheers. Atarumaster88 20px (Talk page) 18:00, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

Corran objections

Since I'm stuck as an anon, I can't edit the FAN page. I'll be addressing your objections here.

  • That can happen when you're adding in facts as you read them from all kinds of different books and only synthesizing later. Their main link is chronological; the two events have to be next to each other. I've transitioned a little more, but if you still don't like it, I'll try splitting it into two paragraphs.
  • It's not just a P&T thing; it's about events going on in his life, and his time in CorSec. Basically, it's about Horn settling into his job, so it has to go after he gets the job in the preceding paragraph, and as it's already a fact of his life before the Thyne bust, it gets put in before that rather than in the second "General CorSec" section after the bust. If you still want it changed up, I'll try splitting the preceding paragraph and putting his mother's death after it and tying it into his getting the job. Havac 20:40, 19 July 2008 (UTC)
    • You say you edited it? I didn't see any changes in the history. I think I like your suggestion on the second bullet point. —Xwing328(Talk) 02:28, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
      • Odd. It seems it didn't take. Let's try that again, now with the split implemented.
  • Yes, Ooryl was Rogue Ten. However, his callsign didn't seem that relevant for inclusion.
    • Your right, it's not necessary. Just seemed like a random bit of trivia that might be nice. —Xwing328(Talk) 22:54, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
  • I clarified that a little. Havac 16:58, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks. I think that flows a bit better now. —Xwing328(Talk) 22:54, 20 July 2008 (UTC)
    • Yeah, that seems to be the case. I handled it. Also, note that your Ooryl objection is still unstruck -- I'm not sure if you mean to have it that way, or if it's an oversight. Havac 00:41, 30 July 2008 (UTC)

FA Noms

Hey man! You were always helpful with my other FA noms, and was wondering if you would consider looking over my current noms for Andoorni Hui, Groznik and most notably, Gara Petothel. The latter one is long, but I think a good one. Let me know. Thanks! --Colinmcev 23:22, 26 July 2008 (UTC)

Re:User talk:Graestan

Well, I didn't want to give anyone the impression they can't do what they want with it, since there will be no MOS restrictions. • That's what happens when people are stupid enough to capitalize the "The" to begin with. You could write a regex thing to help figure out if it's in the middle of a sentence or not, but I really don't think it's worth the trouble. —Xwing328(Talk) 21:57, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Lobar Aybock

Hey Xwing328 -

Glad you enjoyed the story and thanks for putting so much work into Lobar's page!

Only a couple things I noticed (I probably could've changed these myself, but I didn't wanna step on your toes) -

In the first, preamble paragraph, it's stated that the Calians were deemed unfit to be stormtroopers due to being red skinned and near human. In Fists Of Ion it's not specifically stated what the Empire's reasons were for not using Calians. It's probable that this was a factor, but the overlarge T'Syriél were used by S'kar as stormtroopers without a problem and they were far less human looking than Calians (see Marvel Star Wars #53 and the wookiepedia entry on T'Syriél Stormtroopers). I don't say this expressly, but my thought was that the Calians were deemed unmanageable because of their independent nature, which did not take easily to stormtrooper indoctrination. Specifically, their ryastraad battle madness couldn't be harnessed and made them too unpredictable.

Under 'Life As A Shockboxer,' there is a sentence near the beginning which reads...

'Aybock would stay at a hotel relatively close to his shockboxing matches, so that he could run to the arena to get pumped up before the race.' - The word 'race' should be changed to 'fight.'

Some behind the scenes stuff I didn't put in my blog...

The name of Lobar's Chevin manager/cornerman Eedund Cus comes from a combination of Muhammad Ali's real-life boxing cornerman Angelo Dundee and the great Cus D'amato, who trained Mike Tyson.

Lobar's Gungan fight doctor Stitchy is named after the UFC cutman Jacob 'Stitch' Duran.

I began Fists Of Ion wanting to expand on Wayne Humfleet's concept of shockboxing, which was loosely described in the WEG supplement Heroes and Rogues but never fleshed out (due to the fate of WEG). The best and most resonating representation of a boxing hero to me has always been Stallone's Rocky Balboa, so I set out to do a Rocky story in the Star Wars universe. The scene of Lobar running through the streets with all the Rust Rats behind him was the first scene I started with in my head and is a direct translation of the Gonna Fly Now scene in Rocky II. As a further homage to that, 'Lobar Aybock' is a tuckerization of 'Rocky Balboa.'

The other big inspiration for the story was the real life 1938 Joe Louis-Max Schmeling fight which at the time had huge societal signifigance - a black American went up against an athlete who represented Hitler's German Aryan ideal...and won. In Star Wars, shockboxing was dominated by Barabels as a Barabel invention (Lobar alludes to the fact that nobody thinks a Barabel can be beat), and nearhumans were certainly considered second class citizens during the reign of the Empire - as it says in the story "not near [human] enough." Lobar was a stand-in for Louis with Tull Raine being a greatly exaagerated Max Schmeling.

Anyway, that's it. Great job on the article! It's a real thrill to be able to look up your own creations on wookiepedia. Being a fan who has browsed and revised these pages myself I know it's all due to a lot of dilligent work.

Thanks, Xwing!

Bot request

I have been talking with Greyman, and he suggested you might be able to help me out. Do to the recent CT decision that "creature" should be used instead of "animal", there are several categories that need to be changed from "animal" titles to "creature" titles, and all of the articles in the old categories have to be recategorized to the new ones. That's more than 800 articles that need their categories changed. I have already created the new categories, so now the articles in the old cats just need to be recategorized. I was hoping you can program a bot to go through all of the articles and subcategories in each of the old categories:

  • Category:Aquatic animals
  • Category:Domesticated animals
  • Category:Extinct animals
  • Category:Flying animals
  • Category:Food animals
  • Category:Hunting animals
  • Category:Named animals

And change the categories in those articles to the new ones:

Do you think you can help me out? Gray Jedi 05:29, 15 November 2008 (UTC)

  • No problem. I'll get on it soon. —Xwing328(Talk) 20:01, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks. Having a bot go through those hundreds of articles is a better prospect than going through them all manually. Gray Jedi 21:02, 15 November 2008 (UTC)
  • I just wanted to let you know that I've gone ahead and changed the cats for articles in the hunting animals category. It only had 25 articles, so it didn't take too long to do it myself. I'll leave the last two categories for Whistler to take care of. Gray Jedi 01:16, 17 November 2008 (UTC)
    • OK, done. For future reference, the bot can move the category page for you. It's actually much easier on my end if it hasn't been moved yet, because I can even have the bot delete the old category page. I couldn't do them all last night just because I had other things going on. Let me know if you have any other requests. —Xwing328(Talk) 05:35, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Bot change

Could you change the category Category:Jedi Purge Survivors to "Category:Jedi Purge survivors"? (Lowercase S). Thanks, --Eyrezer 00:00, 4 December 2008 (UTC)

  • Done. And it looks like I'll be back a bit this coming week after being away for awhile. —Xwing328(Talk) 01:45, 7 December 2008 (UTC)
    • Thanks. --Eyrezer 21:12, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

sw.com blog

I don't know if this is the right address, but as you manageing the "wookieepedia" blog on sw.com I want to ask if you may could feature my blog as I'am the only german user of the Jedipedia with his own blog it makes it to some kind of "semi-official" sw.com blog of the jedipedia project. This could may further increase our partnership.--Modgamers 21:03, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

  • I added you to the blog roll, so hopefully more people will see it. Is that what you were looking for? —Xwing328(Talk) 22:36, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
  • Yup. Something like that. --Modgamers 10:16, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
