"All good things must pass, and at the end of March we will be winding down some aspects of Angry Birds Star Wars 2 including the ingame shop and adverts. The game will also no longer be available in app stores from that date, but we will continue to provide player support for those who have the game installed on their devices until the end of 2020. We want to thank you for being part of this game, it's meant a great deal to us. Keep on flinging!"
Angry Birds Team, on the closure of Angry Birds Star Wars series[4]

Angry Birds Star Wars II is the second puzzle strategy video game installment in the Angry Birds Star Wars series and acts as the prequel to the first game, Angry Birds Star Wars, continuing the collaboration between Rovio Entertainment and LucasArts. On July 15, 2013, Rovio announced that it would be releasing its second entry to the Angry Birds Star Wars series on September 19 of the same year. However, the game was released on iOS, Android, Windows Phone 8, and Kindle Fire on September 18, 2013, a day early than initially planned. Unlike the first game, Angry Birds Star Wars II introduces Hasbro's toys-to-life technology, Telepods, allowing players to scan their physical toys to be used in the game.

The main story of Angry Birds Star Wars II broadly adapts and parodies the events seen throughout the prequel trilogy, from the Boonta Eve Classic all the way to the Great Jedi Purge, which is spread across five different chapters. The game also allows players to play as both opposing sides, the Bird Side and the Pork Side, giving two different perspectives of the same story.

Overview

Angry Birds Star Wars II is the prequel and sequel to Angry Birds Star Wars. It contains characters, planets, and storylines from the prequel trilogy and the animated TV-series Star Wars Rebels's first season. Such as The Grand Inquisitor, General Grievous, and Mustafar. The game consists of using a slingshot to throw "pigs" or "birds" to some structures built of various materials which protect various "enemies" or "bosses".

The game features "chapters", groups of levels grouped by storylines, such as "The Invasion of Naboo" and "The Battle of Naboo", every chapter has from 1 to 31 levels. Most of the chapters end with a boss, which can be destroying Padmé Amidala's ship and all Royal Naboo Security members on a Trade Federation ship, or defeating The Grand Inquisitor on the surface of the planet Lothal.

The story is told from the perspective of the Pork side or the Avian Republic, depending on which side you choose on the main menu, as all chapters have a "Pork Side" version and a "Avian Republic" version. Cutscenes usually follow the movie's or series' stories, however, they usually don't completely follow the plot of the movie or series, such as the first chapter, "The Invasion of Naboo", it shows Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon and Amidala's ship fighting two battles instead of one battle on Naboo.

Chapters

The game is divided into chapters. From the first chapter, "The Invasion of Naboo" to the last chapter "Rebels", each chapter has between 1 to 31 levels. There are 8 total chapters, two of them aren't based on any storyline, three are based on the Phantom Menace's plot, 1 is based on Attack of the clones. The two last chapters are one based on Revenge of the sith and the final one on Star Wars Rebels's first season. When a player begins a chapter, they choose a side, to unlock the other side they must complete it or purchase the other side.

The 8 chapters are, "Reward Chapter", a chapter in which you can master specific characters, "Master your Destiny", where you can develop your skills with the pork or avian sides, "Naboo Invasion", where you can recreate the events of the Naboo Invasion. "Escape to Tatooine", where you battle against Jawas and Sebulba, "Battle of Naboo", end the Trade Federation's control of Naboo. "Rise of the clones", defeat Zam Wessel and Obi-Wan Kenobi, "Revenge of the Pork", battle against the Chosen One or his master, and finally, "Rebels", revive the events of the Rebels TV-show.

Bosses

The game's chapters usually end with a boss. The bosses are the movie/series the chapter is based on's villain, such as Count Dooku in case you play as the Avian Republic, or in case you play as the Pork Side, Amidala's ship, Kenobi, or Kanan Jarrus.

Development

On July 15, 2013, Rovio Entertainment announced a sequel to Angry Birds Star Wars, releasing on September 19, 2013.[10] During San Diego Comic-Con 2013, Rovio announced the project directly to fans[11] and revealed some of the characters coming into the game.[12] It released on September 18, 2013. It allows players to integrate Hasbro's Telepods into the gameplay.[1] In May 2014, Rovio released an update with 44 levels and new game effects.[13]

Closure

After a message published in early February 2020[14], the game, and the rest of the Angry Birds games available at that time closed its ingame shop and advertising in March 2020, and was removed from app stores. Player support continued to be provided until the end of 2020.[4]
