- «Ah! Do that again!»
- ―Jabba the Hutt, to Joh Yowza and his band
Joh Yowza was a male Yuzzum performer for the Max Rebo Band. Yowza joined the original band members Maximilian Rebo, Sy Snootles, and Droopy McCool, who had already been performing together for years.[4] He often performed duets with Snootles, who was the lead vocalist.[2] Rebo regarded Yowza as irksome and did not like how he seemed to hog the spotlight. Yowza was also known to have his own compositions that he liked to introduce in spite of the band's prepared material, which Rebo also did not appreciate.[4]
Shortly before the Battle of Endor, Yowza and the rest of the band performed at Jabba the Hutt's palace on the planet Tatooine. The performance came to a halt when Jabba dropped his slave dancer Oola into the rancor pit, as Yowza gasped in horror.[3] Among Jabba's courtiers, there were many people who disliked Yowza's voice and dreamed of silencing him brutally. The Hutt, however, appeared to like the Yuzzum singer, and Jabba's opinion was the only one that mattered in his palace.[5] At some point, Yowza left the band and was to do a solo concert at Oga's Cantina on Batuu a few rotations after the skirmish at Kat Saka's farm.[6]
Biography
- "Joh!"
[Joh Yowza flashes a rude gesture] - ―Max Rebo and Joh Yawza
In 3 ABY,[7] during the reign of the Galactic Empire; the Yuzzum singer Joh Yowza had joined and performed alongside the Max Rebo Band,[8] a band led by the Ortolan Maximilian Rebo, who already performed for the Hutt crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure at his palace on the[9] planet[10] Tatooine years prior.[9] When performing for the Hutt, Yowza often duetted with another singer, the Pa'lowick Sy Snootles.[2] Although, by 4 ABY,[11] his performance and presence were disliked by Jabba's courtiers in the palace,[10] even by other members of his band,[4][12] with many dreaming of silencing the Yuzzum with a blaster. However, the Hutt's opinion was the only thing that mattered and he liked Yowza's performance,[10] earning him Jabba's favor.[4] Later,[11] Yowza performed a duet with Snootles and sang "Jedi Rocks;" however, their performance was cut short after the Twi'lek slave Oola was dropped into the rancor pit, prompting Yowza to gasp in horror.[3]
The next day, Yowza and many other of Jabba's courtiers went aboard the Hutt's luxury sail barge, the Khetanna, to witness the execution of the Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker.[3]
Behind the scenes
Joh Yowza first appeared in the Special Edition of Return of the Jedi,[3] which was released on March 14, 1997.[13] He was added as part of an extended musical number in Jabba's Palace.[3]
