"Unity wins war, gentlemen."
―Shaak Ti[9]

Shaak Ti was a Force-sensitive Togruta female Jedi Master who served as one of the final members of the Jedi High Council before the Great Jedi Purge. Highly regarded amongst the Jedi Order for her wisdom, Ti excelled as a teacher and was a highly skilled combatant and swordsman, as well as a devoted believer in the ways of the Jedi. Ti ascended to the prestigious High Council following the retirement of Master Yaddle and retained her seat until the Order's dissolution at the end of the Clone Wars. During the Clone Wars, a galaxy-wide conflict between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems, Ti was given the rank of Jedi General in the Grand Army of the Republic and participated in the pivotal battles of Geonosis, Kamino, and Coruscant but spent much of the war stationed on Kamino, where she oversaw the production and training of the Republic's clone soldiers.

As the Republic's representative on Kamino, General Ti advised Prime Minister Lama Su and commanded the planet's security measures. Her compassion for the clones clashed with the Kaminoans' treatment of them as products, and for much of her time on Kamino, Ti had a strained working relationship with the Kaminoan government, which begrudgingly tolerated her spirituality and advocacy for the clones. Late in the war, Ti became entangled in a conspiracy surrounding the origin of a mysterious inhibitor biochip implanted in every clone. As she attempted to root out these secrets from rogue ARC Trooper Fives, whose unauthorized investigation led to their discovery, the Kaminoan leadership, mainly Chief Medical Scientist Nala Se, worked to undermine her to keep the inhibitors' true purpose secret. Despite her efforts to the contrary, Ti was unable to help Fives as he began suffering a mental collapse due to Nala Se's machinations, and his secrets ultimately died with him shortly after.

After the biochip conspiracy, Ti elected to return to the Republic capital, Coruscant, where she aided the Jedi Council in its failed attempts to discover the identity of the Dark Lord of the Sith, who they believed had engineered the war and played a role in the origin of the clone armies. Though they devoted much time to discovering their identity and motives, Ti and her fellow Jedi were unable to learn who the shadowy figure was. Among other endeavors, Ti sealed a Starweird in the Sason Temple with Master Aayla Secura and later participated in the Battle of Coruscant. In the final days of the war, however, Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine of the Republic revealed himself as the Sith Lord Darth Sidious and enacted the Great Jedi Purge to eradicate the Jedi, using the clones' inhibitor chips to turn the Republic's armies against the Order. Ti, who remained on Coruscant after the battle, was slain at the hands of newly christened Sith Lord Darth Vader as he and his forces laid siege to the Jedi Temple.

Biography

Master of the Jedi Order

Early life

Shaak Ti was born on the planet Shili, the homeworld of the Togruta species,[10] in the galaxy's Expansion Region.[11] Identified as Force-sensitive at a young age, Ti was sent to join the Jedi Order, an ancient monastic religious order based on the Core World of Coruscant. Like all her fellow Jedi, Ti began as an initiate before becoming a Padawan learner, and eventually rose to become a Jedi Knight. Eventually, Ti was recognized as one of the most powerful members of the Order and was bestowed with the title of Jedi Master.[12] As a Jedi Master, Ti became known amongst the Order as a mentor and teacher, and many of her peers sought her out for guidance.[13]

Invasion of Syrinx Prime

"There it is...the Syrinxian weapons forge. I take it everyone has their thermal detonators?"
―Shaak Ti, to Ki-Adi-Mundi, Vetna Mooncrest, and Berem Khana[14]

At some point between 40 BBY and 34 BBY,[15] centuries of distrust and tension between the neighboring planets Syrinx Prime and Vekura exploded into open warfare. When Vekuran General Lafco authorized an invasion of Syrinx Prime, the Supreme Chancellor of the Galactic Republic, Finis Valorum, dispatched a contingent of ten Jedi to intervene and end hostilities. Six of the Jedi sent were Jedi Masters, including Master Ti, and four others, Yoda, Mace Windu, Ki-Adi-Mundi, and Adi Gallia, were members of the Jedi High Council, the Order's ruling body. While Grand Master Yoda led efforts to repel the Vekuran invasion, believing the Jedi had to defend the planet before negotiations could take place, Master Qui-Gon Jinn and the Jedi Knight Berem Khana attempted to speak with General Lafco. When Lafco rejected Jinn's request for a ceasefire, he and Khana returned to Syrinx to discuss their findings with the rest of the strike team and the High Council.[14]

At the meeting, Jinn relayed his concern that the Vekurans were not the sole aggressors of the conflict. Master Gallia, who had led a reconnaissance mission elsewhere on Syrinx, confirmed that the Syrinxians were holding numerous Vekurans, including many noncombatants, in a prison camp near the southern border. Upon hearing this, Ti stated that the situation appeared more complex than the Jedi were initially led to believe. Though Mundi dismissed her assessment, Master Yoda and Master Yarael Poof, speaking via hologram, agreed with her, adding that both the Syrinxians and Vekurans had culpability for the sudden outburst of violence. Despite Khana's concerns, Yoda and Master Yaddle affirmed that the Jedi's mission to ensure peace in the system remained unchanged but that the strike team now had to "persuade" each side that it was in their best interest to negotiate by destroying their respective ability to continue waging war.[14]

As part of their new plan, Yoda and Windu met with Syrinxian President Hoss and General Lafco, respectively, while the other eight Jedi split into two groups of four. The first group, consisting of Jinn, Gallia, the Knight Seera Longa, and Jinn's Padawan, Obi-Wan Kenobi, traveled to Vekura to disable the Vekuran shipyards. The second group, led by Master Ti and including Mundi, Khana, and Vetna Mooncrest, went to destroy the Syrinxian weapons forge. As the Jedi observed the forge from a far mountain, Ti asked her team if they had their thermal detonators ready. When the group commenced their attack, Khana and Mooncrest went to destroy the forge from inside while Ti and Mundi fought off a number of incoming Syrinxian soldiers. In conjunction with the destruction of the Vekuran shipyards, the attack on the weapons forge convinced both Hoss and Lafco that continuing the war was not viable, and both leaders agreed to meet and negotiate peace.[14]

Tracking Phaedra

"Hmm. It would seem we've been played."
"It would, in fact, seem."
"She didn't want us to save her from these bounty hunters."
"No. She wanted us to distract them...so she could get away."
―Shaak Ti and Qui-Gon Jinn, on Phaedra's deception[16]

Sometime after the Syrinxian-Vekuran war,[14] Shaak Ti and Qui-Gon Jinn were dispatched to the Galactic Bank of Coruscant, a local bank administered by the InterGalactic Banking Clan, which had recently been robbed. Ti and Jinn were sent to speak with the bank's minister, partially at the behest of the influential Senator Beka, whose account was pillaged. Upon meeting with the Muun minister, Ti sternly informed him that the Jedi were not constabularies despite their quick response. When Jinn asked how much had been taken from Beka's account, the Muun responded that the total seized was ten thousand converted and certified IBC credits, but that the Banking Clan had discovered that Beka was illegally holding the funds on behalf of a third party, the Tatooine-based crime lord Jabba Desilijic Tiure the Hutt. The Muun added that Beka would face significant legal peril if their actions became public, but Jinn and Ti disagreed and stated that both Beka and whoever had stolen their money were in more danger from the Hutt Clans.[16]

Jinn questioned why the Banking Clan was concerned with recovering credits belonging to Jabba the Hutt, and the minister explained that the quantity stolen, even if originating with the gangster, was enough to threaten the bank's solvency, which is why the Jedi's help was necessary. Jinn reiterated Ti's earlier comment that the Jedi were not constables but added that they would try their best and requested access to the bank's security facility to scrub through security footage. There, Jinn noted the appearance of a mysterious shuttle station-keeping just outside the bank at the time of the robbery, and Ti pointed out a female individual departing the ship shortly after it landed. Jinn suggested that the suspect was a Quaraxian, a species Ti had never heard of, which Jinn explained were near-extinct and notably intelligent. Ti sarcastically remarked that the suspect didn't appear intelligent for robbing the Hutts, but Jinn hypothesized that she might not have known Beka's account was being used to hold the Hutt's money.[16]

Knowing that they would find their suspect by tracking their shuttle, Ti and Jinn followed their trail to Nar Shaddaa, where the planetary traffic control had registered a ship fitting the right description. Because there was no recorded landing platform, Ti and Jinn left their transport and began walking down a city street. As Ti questioned where they should start their search, Jinn sensed the presence of Corlis Rath, an assassin who had been targeting him since the Invasion of Syrinx Prime. He dismissed Ti's concerns and decided to focus on tracking their suspect instead. By coincidence, their suspect, the criminal Phaedra, had been cornered by bounty hunters hired by Jabba nearby, and the commotion attracted Ti and Jinn to her location. When the Jedi arrived, Phaedra revealed that she had allowed the Jedi to track her as part of a ploy to keep Jabba's mercenaries from hurting her, knowing the Jedi would distract them.[16]

Although Ti and Jinn recognized that they had been played by Phaedra, the two brandished their lightsabers and prepared for battle. While Ti and Jinn deflected blasterfire from the three bounty hunters, Phaedra's ship suddenly took off, and the mercenaries quickly ran off to their transports to follow her. Though Ti began to follow them, Jinn stopped her, realizing that Phaedra had sent up a decoy. While Jabba's mercenaries followed the decoy ship, the Jedi tracked Phaedra's real shuttle to the planet Ord Mantell, where they worked with Marshal Buck Vancto of the Benelex Marshal Service, who was authorized to arrest Phaedra for the robbery. When the Jedi confronted Phaedra, she showed them the credits aboard her ship before being arrested by Vancto moments later. Although Ti and Jinn successfully recovered the credits, Phaedra had planned for this and only needed the credits as collateral for a large bet on a race on Malastare, which she collected after being rescued from Vancto's custody by the bounty hunter Jango Fett.[16]

Tides of terror

Onset of the Clone Wars

The road to war

During the Naboo Crisis in 32 BBY,[17] the long-tenured[18] Yaddle chose to step down from the Jedi High Council,[19] citing disillusionment over the Council's treatment of the late Qui-Gon Jinn,[20] who had discovered both the resurgent Sith and the potential Chosen One while serving on Naboo.[21] Shortly after[20] choosing to take a less active role in Jedi affairs,[1] Yaddle died under unknown circumstances,[22] and Master Ti was selected to take Yaddle's seat on the Council. Ti was one of only two Jedi inducted onto the Council between the Naboo Crisis[19] in 32 BBY[17] and the Clone Wars[19] in 22 BBY,[17] the other being Master Coleman Trebor, who replaced Master Yarael Poof.[19] At some point during that decade,[23] Ti was involved in a complicated incident on Naran-Shiv with Obi-Wan Kenobi and his Padawan, Anakin Skywalker, the disputed Chosen One discovered by Qui-Gon Jinn before his death.[24]

After the attempted assassination of Padmé Amidala, Ti and the Council authorize Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to investigate.

After the attempted assassination of Padmé Amidala, Ti and the Council authorize Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker to investigate.

In 24 BBY, the Galactic Republic became embroiled in the Separatist Crisis, in which thousands of member systems absconded to join the nascent Confederacy of Independent Systems, a new galactic government formed by former Jedi Master and political firebrand Count Dooku of Serenno. By 22 BBY,[17] the rise of the Separatists led the Republic Senate to debate the creation of a military to fight in a potential war, and the Jedi Council became involved in talks with Supreme Chancellor Sheev Palpatine, during which they attempted to forestall a Senate vote on the Military Creation Act. Despite the Order's intentions, a series of assassination attempts on Naboo Senator Padmé Amidala would lead the Council on a twisted path to war. Ti and the Council assigned Kenobi and Skywalker to track Amidala's attempted assassin and protect the senator, respectively. Ti was later present in the Jedi Temple Archives as Kenobi researched a lead, a weapon from the extragalactic planet Kamino.[6]

Upon arriving at Kamino shortly thereafter, Kenobi made the startling discovery that the Kaminoan government had produced a clone army for the Republic, allegedly at the behest of a long-dead member of the Jedi Council, Sifo-Dyas,[6] who had been removed from the Council over a decade before.[17] Kenobi also learned that the genetic template for the clone army was the bounty hunter targeting Amidala, Jango Fett. Fett, however, informed Kenobi that he had been hired by a man called Tyrannus, not Sifo-Dyas. After following Fett to Geonosis, Kenobi additionally discovered the Confederacy's droid foundries, where Dooku was preparing his own army. Although he was taken captive, Kenobi sent a transmission to Coruscant disclosing his findings. The confirmation of Separatist militarization spurred the Senate to grant Palpatine emergency powers to bypass a vote and directly commission the use of the Kaminoan clone armies.[6]

Battle of Geonosis

Knowing that war between the Republic and the Separatists was now inevitable, Master Yoda departed for Kamino to see the new clone army for himself, and Master Windu prepared what Jedi he could to go to Geonosis and rescue Kenobi.[6] Recognizing Ti's martial skills, Windu selected her to join his assault team[13] of over 200 Jedi[25] assembled to free Kenobi, as well as Skywalker and Amidala, who had led a failed rescue attempt themselves, from execution in the Petranaki Arena on Geonosis.[6] Once at Geonosis, a majority of the Jedi snuck into the arena during the attempted execution while others secured a landing site.[26] Ti was among the Jedi who infiltrated the arena and, alongside Master Luminara Unduli,[6] hid and waited for the right moment to intervene.[26] Standing on a balcony far above the arena pit were Count Dooku and other Confederate leaders, as well as Jango Fett, who watched as the three prisoners managed to evade death at the hands of the Geonosians' execution beasts, an acklay, a reek, and a nexu.[6]

At Dooku's command, the prisoners were surrounded by numerous droidekas, but before he could order their deaths, Windu confronted the former Jedi. Windu's move to arrest Dooku was the signal for the assault team to act, and the Jedi throughout the arena ignited their lightsabers and revealed themselves. Ti and Unduli ignited their lightsabers and quickly joined the battle as Dooku unleashed hordes of battle droids to counterattack. The Jedi's lack of recent combat experience and the sheer number of droids overwhelmed the strike team.[26] Ti and Unduli were forced to descend the arena[13] amidst the chaotic fighting, during which Windu killed Fett. The Jedi were quickly surrounded and suffered severe casualties,[26] and the few Jedi who survived the onslaught, including Ti, formed a circle in the center of the arena to defend themselves. Dooku paused the droid assault to offer the remaining Jedi a chance to surrender, but Windu resoundingly refused.[6]

When Dooku ordered the droids to execute the survivors, however, Master Yoda arrived with the newly-commissioned Grand Army of the Republic. Yoda had several LAAT/i gunships form a perimeter around the assault team, briefly protecting them from the battle droids. Ti, Unduli, and Master Saesee Tiin boarded a gunship[6] and were quickly taken from the arena to the front lines of a larger planetary conflict,[25] where the Republic Army was engaging the Separatist forces in an improvised and hasty battle.[26] On the front lines, Ti was among the Jedi who led the assault on the retreating Separatist core ships, fighting alongside Windu to prevent Separatist leaders from escaping.[27] Despite having naval superiority, the Republic failed to enact a tangible orbital blockade, allowing for a near-full Separatist retreat. The Battle of Geonosis cost the lives of most of the Jedi strike team, which failed to end the burgeoning war, now dubbed the Clone Wars, in a single stroke.[26]

Shortly following the Battle of Geonosis, Separatist forces established footholds on various worlds across the Outer Rim Territories. Seeking to ascertain what purpose the Confederacy had in establishing a presence on Hissrich, Ti and the Council assigned Windu and a covert team of Jedi to investigate.[28] Ti was later present when the Council gave Kenobi and Skywalker permission to rescue Senators Amidala and Yarua when they were trapped by the Separatists during a diplomatic mission to the moon of Staggec.[29] Just weeks after Geonosis, the Republic Senate passed the Jedi Military Integration Act, which formally established members of the Jedi Order, who had been leading the clones in battle since the war began, as officers in the Grand Army of the Republic.[24] As a Jedi Master and a member of the High Council, Ti was among the Jedi given the title of Jedi General.[8]

Deployment to Kamino

Republic envoy

"From here, you ship out to fight against the Separatists and restore peace to the Republic. Congratulations. You are no longer cadets. You are troopers. May the Force be with you."
―Shaak Ti, delivering a speech for newly-graduated clone troopers[9]
Early in the Clone Wars, Shaak Ti was selected to represent the Republic and the Jedi as an envoy on Kamino.

Early in the Clone Wars, Shaak Ti was selected to represent the Republic and the Jedi as an envoy on Kamino.

After the initial outbreak of war on Geonosis, General Ti led detachments of clone troopers in several battles,[13] but was soon chosen to oversee the critical cloning initiative on Kamino. Sent to Kamino early in the conflict,[4] Ti acted as a representative for the Jedi and the Republic, assuming various responsibilities and duties.[4] Her primary duty was to supervise the cloning operations,[30] and as such was tasked with watching over and training the clone forces for combat. To aid her, the Republic contracted two bounty hunters, Bric and El-Les, to help conduct training routines for cadet squads and prepare them for graduation and active deployment.[9] Early on, General Ti became a protector for the clones under her supervision,[4] and in turn was a figure the soldiers looked up to and respected.[8] Her compassion for them was countered by the need to produce capable soldiers, and she often fell between the unsentimental Bric and the caring El-Les on matters relating to how strict their training regimen was.[9]

In addition to overseeing the training program, Ti served as an advisor to Kaminoan Prime Minister Lama Su,[13] representing the Republic's interests in meetings with him[9] and working closely with his administrative aide, Taun We.[31] Ti also worked alongside Chief Medical Scientist Nala Se, who had played a key role in developing the clone armies.[8] Despite her duties requiring her to collaborate with the Kaminoan government,[9] Ti's compassion for the clones as individuals contrasted greatly with the Kaminoans' cold view of them as products and property,[4] which caused tension between her and her colleagues.[8] Another of Ti's duties was the coordination of Kamino's defenses,[4] including a defensive orbital blockade and local garrison stationed on-world,[26] of which she was the commanding officer,[32] as well as the security force that guarded the capital, Tipoca City.[33] At some point during her deployment to the extragalactic planet, Ti flew her Eta-2 Actis-class light interceptor over Kamino's oceans.[34]

During the war, Ti was among several Jedi whose apprehension was sought by the Confederacy, which offered a reward of 300,000 credits in return for her capture. In citizens' alerts issued by the Separatists, the primary cause for her arrest was "conspiracy against the Confederacy," and her listed offenses were "war crimes, clone slave mastering," and "insurrection." Among her known associates listed on such alerts were Prime Minister Su, the[35] deceased[6] Master Trebor, and Sarissa Jeng.[35]

In 21 BBY, nearly a year after Republic forces foiled a planned Separatist attack on Kamino during the defense of Rishi Station,[17] Republic Intelligence intercepted a message between Confederate Supreme Martial Commander Grievous and Dooku's assassin, Asajj Ventress, discussing another plan to invade the planet and halt the production of clone troopers. After decrypting the message, Generals Kenobi and Skywalker traveled to Kamino with the 501st Legion to bolster Ti's garrison and reinforce the orbital blockade. Ti and Prime Minister Su greeted Kenobi and Skywalker upon their arrival at Tipoca City. Though Su expressed his doubt that the Separatists would attack Kamino, given the strong blockade,[7] Ti and her fellow Jedi began coordinating the planet's defenses in preparation for the imminent attack.[4] Believing they would be facing an orbital assault, the Jedi strengthened the blockade, which was commanded by Admiral Wullf Yularen.[26]

While Yularen awaited the invasion in orbit, Ti, Kenobi, Su, and two clone officers, Commander Cody and Captain Rex, monitored the situation from the command center in Tipoca City. When General Grievous's attack fleet dropped from hyperspace, they began an immediate assault on Yularen's blockade, and the admiral contacted command for orders. Skywalker, accompanied by three Y-wing bombers, flew into space aboard his starfighter to aid Yularen, and Ti ordered Yularen to begin the air strike. As they observed the battle, Ti noted to Kenobi that the Separatist armada was much smaller than she expected.[7] The orbital battle seemed to be going in the Republic's favor, and Jedi believed they were successfully withstanding the assault[26] until Ti noticed that Grievous appeared to be sacrificing his Munificent-class star frigates to protect his command ship. As debris from the smaller cruisers plummeted to the planet's surface, Kenobi became concerned that something was amiss.[7]

Believing that the falling debris was key to whatever ulterior motive Grievous had for letting his fleet sustain heavy damage, Kenobi ordered Skywalker not to press his attack. Leaving Ti in the command center, Kenobi left to investigate the debris beneath the ocean. What Kenobi discovered was that[7] the Confederate plan was more complex than the Republic had anticipated; the multi-phase attack called for Grievous to discharge debris from his ships onto Kamino's surface, where teams of AQ-series battle droids attached to them would build assault craft to target Tipoca City. As the Separatist Trident-class ships launched from the ocean, depositing droids across Tipoca City, the Jedi redirected the focus of the battle to the planet's surface to repel the attack.[7] While Kenobi and Skywalker led Republic forces to halt the droid army's advance, Ti continued to monitor the widespread battle alongside Su until a detachment of aqua droids reached the command center.[7]

Ti easily dispatched the five droids, slicing through several with her lightsaber and destroying the rest using the Force. Discerning from the small number that the droid forces were spread thin throughout the city, Ti contacted her fellow Jedi and ordered them to press their offensive while they had the chance. While Kenobi engaged Grievous and Skywalker hunted Ventress, who had infiltrated the city to steal clone DNA samples, Ti led the counteroffensive against the droid army and pushed them back to the main hangar. Ti contacted Commander Cody to inform him of her progress, and soon the Republic forces converged to destroy the remaining aqua droids. However, Grievous and Ventress both managed to escape, albeit without the DNA.[7] Grievous' risky attack failed thanks to the Jedi's effort, and the damage to Tipoca City was quickly contained. Clone production soon resumed on Kamino,[26] with Ti still as its overseer.[8]

Serving the Council

In addition to her duties while stationed on Kamino,[8] Master Ti continued to serve as a member of the Jedi Council, attending meetings either via hologram[36] or in person on Coruscant.[37] In 20 BBY, when the Council learned of a 2,000-year-old distress code intercepted by Republic Intelligence, Ti and her peers sent Kenobi, Skywalker, and the latter's Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, to the Chrelythiumn system to rendezvous with Captain Rex and investigate.[38] Later that year,[17] Ti was present when the Council dispatched the four to investigate the disappearance of a Togruta colony on Kiros,[39] then again when the Onderon resistance, embroiled in rebellion against the Separatist-backed monarch, Sanjay Rash, requested assistance from the Jedi. Although Ti and the rest of the Council were wary of providing open support since it would bring scrutiny from the Senate, they chose to send Kenobi, Skywalker, Tano, and Rex on a covert mission to train the Onderonian rebels in secret.[40]

Not long after the disappearance of the Togruta on Kiros,[17] the Council learned that Count Dooku had contracted criminal mastermind Moralo Eval in an alleged plot to kidnap Chancellor Palpatine during the Festival of Light on Naboo. Due to the vague nature of the rumors, Ti and the Council decided to move forward with a risky plan to fake Master Kenobi's death and send him undercover as a bounty hunter to ingratiate himself with Eval, who was being held by Republic authorities on Coruscant. To give Kenobi's "death" legitimacy, the Council kept his survival secret from all but themselves, then held a traditional Jedi funeral for him, which Ti attended.[41] While Kenobi worked to sabotage Dooku and Eval, the Council took charge of security during the Festival of Light, and Ti participated in meetings to discuss protective measures to ensure Palpatine's safety. Their plan was ultimately successful, and Palpatine escaped the attempted kidnapping unscathed.[42]

In 19 BBY,[17] a hangar in the Jedi Temple was bombed in a terrorist attack, resulting in over twenty deaths and dozens more injured.[43] Following the attack, Ti joined the Council via hologram to discuss the situation. After concluding that they could not rule out the possibility that the culprit was a rogue Jedi, the Council assigned Skywalker and Tano to lead an internal investigation of the bombing. Their investigation led to the arrest of anti-war activist Letta Turmond, who they determined had fed nano-droid explosives to her husband, a munitions expert employed by the Order named Jackar Bowmani.[36] Master Ti later traveled to Coruscant to attend the funeral of the six Jedi killed in the attack, and solemnly listened as Yoda eulogized the dead. After the service, Ti joined Masters Plo Koon and Tera Sinube as they walked down the Temple halls, before all three were called to an emergency meeting about recent Separatist activity.[44]

Shaak Ti was one of the judges during Ahsoka Tano's trial, in which the Padawan was expelled from the Jedi Order.

Shaak Ti was one of the judges during Ahsoka Tano's trial, in which the Padawan was expelled from the Jedi Order.

In a startling turn of events, Tano became the prime suspect of orchestrating the attack after Turmond was Force-choked to death while the Padawan was visiting her, after which she fled into the Coruscant Underworld while maintaining her innocence. In a meeting between the Council and Republic Admiral Wilhuff Tarkin, the naval officer accused Tano of masterminding the bombing, causing Ti to exchange a shocked look with Master Kit Fisto.[37] After Tano was captured, the Council faced a significant dilemma of how to deliver justice. In another meeting, Tarkin insisted that a trial organized by the Jedi would appear biased in the eyes of the Senate, implicitly threatening that the Senate could decide the Order was acting in opposition to the Republic should the Council conduct a trial internally. Despite some reservations, the Council contentiously agreed to expel Tano from the Order so she could face a Republic military tribunal.[45]

Expediting the expulsion process, Yoda had Tano and Skywalker summoned to the Chamber of Judgment later that day. Ti was one of the judges present for the trial, standing in a balcony alongside Kenobi, Mundi, Windu, Yoda, and Koon. Despite listening to Tano's counterarguments during the hearing, the Council still ruled that she had committed sedition against the Republic and would be expelled from the Jedi Order. As punishment, Tano was stripped of her Padawan status and forfeited her rank and privileges in the Grand Army of the Republic before being turned over to the Republic court, much to Skywalker's anger. Skywalker ultimately proved his Padawan's innocence before a verdict was reached by the Republic tribunal, revealing that it was Padawan Barriss Offee who had organized the bombing alongside Turmond and used Tano as a scapegoat. The Council apologized to Tano and offered her a chance to rejoin, though she refused and left the Jedi Order.[45]

Brotherhood, which depicts Skywalker becoming a Jedi Knight, is set between the First Battle of Geonosis and the Battle of Christophsis, both of which Galactic Atlas date to 22 BBY. As Brotherhood indicates that the visit to Naran-Shiv occurred when Skywalker was a Padawan, it must have taken place at some point between those two years.
