"There are some citizens of the Republic, like myself, who believe the Jedi Order is not what it used to be. The Jedi have become warmongers. They have become military weapons. And they are killing when they should be keeping the peace."
―Letta Turmond to Ahsoka Tano, explaining her motives[3]

Letta Turmond was a human female inhabitant of the planet Coruscant. Married to Abyssin Jackar Bowmani, Turmond was an activist who protested against the Jedi Order's participation as military officers for the Galactic Republic during the Clone Wars, holding radical beliefs in their transformation into warmongers as a result. Later, as part of her protestations, she was one of several individuals responsible for a bombing of the Jedi Temple in 19 BBY.

Under instructions from the fallen Jedi Padawan, Barriss Offee, Turmond implanted explosive nano-droids within her husband to enact the bombing. As a result, while working in the Temple as a munitions foreman, Bowmani exploded and killed himself along with several Jedi and Republic clone troopers. Turmond was later imprisoned by the Republic after being arrested by Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and his Padawan, Ahsoka Tano, whom the woman desired to reveal the identity of the one behind the bombing to. However, as she came to reveal Offee as the culprit, the fallen Padawan secretly strangled Turmond to death in order to withhold her identity.

Biography

During the Clone Wars, Letta Turmond was the wife of Jackar Bowmani, an Abyssin who worked for the Jedi Order as a munitions expert in the Jedi Temple hangar on Coruscant. Turmond eventually became unimpressed with the Jedi, considering them to have become soldiers and weapons. She conspired with a mysterious Jedi and fed her own husband nano-droids in his food.[4][3] The explosive nano-droids transformed Bowmani into a walking bomb which effectively exploded in a hangar of the Jedi Temple. The explosion caused the deaths of six Jedi, and many Temple workers and clones, and injured many more.[4]

While the Jedi were investigating the attack, Turmond was protesting against the war at the entrance to the Jedi Temple. Identifying her husband in a hologram that Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker was showing to Jedi Master Cin Drallig, Turmond was brought into the Temple for questioning. Expressing concern about her husband, Turmond found out that the Jedi suspected Bowmani of bombing the Temple. She scolded Skywalker for the accusation of her husband, denying that Bowmani could have been involved in the bombing and was released by the Jedi. However, after a deeper investigation into the bombing by Skywalker and his Padawan Ahsoka Tano, they discovered that Bowmani had been blown up by nano-droids in his bloodstream. Skywalker and Tano proceeded to Turmond's home to see if they could find any traces of the nano-droids. None were found on Turmond, but traces were present in the food disposal, so Skywalker and Tano decided to take Turmond back to the Temple for more questioning.[4]

Once outside her residence, Turmond attempted to escape the Jedi, knocking Tano over and jumping on a passing vehicle. Hopping from vehicle to vehicle, she was pursued by Tano and Skywalker. After becoming trapped by the two Jedi in an alley and under increased suspicion, her voice accidentally slipped, and she stated that Bowmani was dead. Skywalker responded, telling her that no one said Bowmani was dead. Turmond then admitted to feeding the nano-droids to her husband.[4]

Turmond was taken into custody by the Jedi,[4] but was later transferred to a Republic military base. From prison, Turmond requested to see Tano, refusing to talk to anyone else. Once Tano arrived, she explained to her that it was a Jedi, dissatisfied with the war, who had given her the idea to feed Bowmani the nano-droids. This Jedi wanted to make a statement to the Republic that the Jedi should not be leading the military effort. Turmond feared that she was in danger from this Jedi and only agreed to tell Tano their name if Tano protected her. However, before she could reveal the Jedi's name, she was Force-choked by Barriss Offee. Tano attempted to save Turmond, but was unsuccessful and Turmond was killed. Clone Commander Fox, who had seen the exchange on the security footage and believed Tano was choking the prisoner, arrived at the scene after Turmond was killed and arrested Tano for the murder.[3]

Personality and traits

Turmond was motivated to help bomb the Jedi Temple by the belief that the Jedi were warmongers. Her participation in the attack was to draw attention to what she felt was the hypocrisy of the Jedi Order during the war. She had no qualms about using murder and terrorism to make a statement on her views. It was for this reason that Barriss Offee used and manipulated Letta to her own ends. Yet, when Offee began to threaten Turmond's life, Turmond was willing to reveal to Ahsoka Tano of Offee's involvement in the bombing in exchange for her protection, which sadly cost Turmond her own life as she was choked to death by Offee.[3]

Letta was also a decent actor in that she faked distress and anger at the Jedi's accusations towards her husband Jackar. However, given that Letta murdered Jackar in such a horrendous and deceptive way and her later revealing it was not her idea to feed him nano-droids, it was unclear whether or not she ever truly loved him.[3]

Turmond was a 1.8 meters (5 feet, 11 inches) tall human[5] female who had dark hair, brown eyes and tan skin. She had several tattoos on her face.[4]

Skills and abilities

Letta Turmond was skilled at sabotage, transforming her husband Jackar Bowmani into a living bomb after feeding him nano-droids, that then ripped through one of the Jedi Temple's hangers.[4] She was also known as an activist,[5] and was seen at a protest alongside several other Jedi Temple bombing victims' friends and family members.[4]
