A kunai was a small bladed weapon used by Jedi Hunters. Sparks activated when they were thrown.[2] The Jedi Hunters Unda and Anda threw kunai to destroy the automated defenses of an abandoned ship while trying to capture the Jedi Lah Kara.[1]
Behind the scenes
Kunai first appeared in "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope," a short film released as part of the third volume of the non-canon Star Wars: Visions series. The animated short was produced by Production IG, written and directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani, and released on Disney+[1] on October 29, 2025.[3] A video uploaded to the official Star Wars YouTube channel on the same day identified the weapon and provided concept art of it.[2] In the real world, a kunai is a type of knife that originated in ancient Japan as a farming tool and was also used as a weapon.[4]
