"Morseerians are methane breathers."
Has Obitt[4]

Morseerians were a sentient species native to the planet Merj.

Biology and appearance

Morseerians[5] were a sentient species native to the planet Merj,[4] that had elongated, conical heads, four arms,[3] and a methane-based respiration. Morseerians were unable to distinguish human faces.[4] Morseerians had to wear special suits and gas masks when traveling to oxygen-based planets.[6] Morseerians had green[3] or blue skin,[2] though the skin underneath their suits was translucent.[4]

History

Morseerians were a secretive species and as such not much was known about the history, or culture of the species[6] It was known however that they hailed from the planet Merj.[4] Some Morseerians have gained fame in the wider galaxy, including Nabrun Leids.[6]

Morseerians in the Galaxy

High republic era

The Morseerian Gluth Andoi was a Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era. He also served on the High Jedi Council. He would go on to perish on Dalna in the Battle of Dalna against the Path of the Open Hand. Andoi was struck by blaster fire and subsequently turned to stone by the Leveler[7] in 382 BBY.[8]

In 232 BBY[9] at least one Morseerian pirate served under Sellaccc Orryak with the Ganguls and was present for the Takeover of Yarrum Tower.[10]Another was present in Yarrum Tower at the time of the Raid on Vuundalla.[11] Later in Yarrum Tower a Morseerian was present with an aggravated Dwuni.[12] A Morsserian Pirate was also present during the attempted takeover of the Tenoo Jedi Temple during the Battle of Tenoo[13]

According to a Holocron recorded by the Jedi explorer Joria Skarl and stored in the Jedi Archives, she visited a monastery of the Phoolian Monks order on the planet Bartool during which she learned of the story of Darth Ravi the Bold. In the story two Morseerian followers of Darth Ravi were searching for the Echo Stone, an artefact that had been sealed inside a complex puzzle created by the Ancients on the Dead Moon of Gothol. One of the Morseerians would fall victim to a trap laid by the Ancients in which he fell into a hole. The other Morseerian died on that moon as well.[14]

Chell Trambin was a Morseerian Nihil who lived during the High Republic Era. He would later perish during the Second Battle of Cyclor.[15]

A Morseerian was present in the Steebark District eating at Groneman's diner when Sian Holt was tracking Urk Panga[16]

Multiple Morseerian scientists worked for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars, including Nan Pakota and Urshe Torr. They were tasked with overseeing the creation of a biological warfare agent that would affect the clone troopers in the Grand Army of the Republic. Galactic Republic Lieutenant Commander Orson Krennic undertook a mission to Merj to capture the scientists and then use them in a prisoner exchange on Vallt.[4]

Sometime Between 24 BBY and 22 BBY[17] a Morseerian was present at Jabba's Palace during a circus performance during which Jabba showcased the Sunburst Gem.[18]

Imperial era

A group of Morseerian pirates operated a ship that employed the WDD adminmech droid DD-BD prior to the droid’s sale into slavery. The Morseerian pirate ship was impounded by the Galactic Empire, after which DD-BD was auctioned to the Pyke Syndicate.[19]

Between 19-8 BBY[20] a A Morseerian was present within the streets of Mos Eisley when Ben Kenobi noticed a man with a spiral on his forehead.[21]

In 2 BBY[22] a Morseerian was kept prisoner on Starlag XIX. The Morseerian and other prisoners trampled guards when an explosion caused by Tonk caused all of their collars to disengage.[23]

Morseerians were among the species of orphans sheltered in the improvised orphanage run by Killi Gimm and Kaya Gimm. Kaya's former droid-repair home was turned into an orphanage near the Midwalls of Jedha City following the Imperial occupation. The caregivers had to learn and accommodate the specific atmospheric requirements of Morseerian children.[24] A Juvenile Morseerian was instructed within a class taught by Kaya.[25]

Between 2 BBY and 0 BBY[26] a Morseerian was present within Chalmun's Spaceport Cantina when a young Tusken Raider attempted entry.[27]

Shortly before the Battle of Yavin, a male Morseerian named Nabrun Leids, attended the cantina of Mos Eisley the day Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker met Han Solo and Chewbacca.[1] Leids was also present within the cantina when Boba Fett questioned patrons about Luke Skywalker shortly after he blew up the Death Star.[29] Many years later, Leids was present on Oba Diah, where he told Karr Nuq Sin about Skywalker and Kenobi's appearance at the cantina, though Leids did not remember what planet it had occurred on.[30]

A Morseerian was among those in a bar on Nar Shaddaa who attempted to beat up Luke Skywalker but was frightened back when Luke ignited out his Lightsaber.[31] Shortly before a Skirmish on Hubin a Morseerian was present within a cantina on Hubin during a shootout between Han Solo and a Hubin native.[32] Later a Morseerian was present within a bar on Carajam after shortly after the Showdown on Carajam.[33]

New republic era

A Morseerian served as a crew member aboard the Buried Treasure and shared a bunk with Yrica Quell in alternating shifts. The Morseerian occupied the bunk when Quell was on duty as an Intelligence analyst.[34]

Lourgh T'oknell was a Morseerian pilot who served in the New Republic’s Alphabet Squadron and later in Flare Squadron under Wyl Lark’s command. He was killed in action when his fighter was lost during a failed attempt to prevent a group of TIE fighters from jumping to lightspeed. Prior to his death, T'oknell had been scheduled to meet with Wyl Lark and had been working with him to retrofit a bunk bed to accommodate his six limbs aboard the Deliverance. The brother of Lourgh served as a communications officer aboard a New Republic vessel and wore a respirator mask. He granted Wyl Lark unauthorized access to a comm room, explaining that who his brother was and that Wyl had been kind to him. While nervously adjusting his respirator mask, the Morseerian asked “Is that all?” after Wyl finished recording a message, then agreed without hesitation to Wyl’s request to forward any incoming signal from Yrica Quell and Kairos to Chass na Chadic and Nath Tensent.[35]

In 34 ABY[36] Several Morseerians were present on Varkana during the Rescue of Norath Kev. One of the Morseerians looked at Kazuda Xiono, CB-23 and Jarek Yeager when they walked down a street in search of Norath Kev.[2]

The head of the Rodian originally fit the head of a four-armed creature named the "Plutonian." This creature was later known as a Morseerian.[38] The Morseerian first appeared as a cantina alien in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. During the film's production, Leids' species was listed as "Plutonian" by John Mollo.[39] According to Tom Spina, in the film, Leids was portrayed by an actress named Diana Sadley Way, who was also listed in Mollo's notes.[40][39] At one point Morseerians were considered for the role of a senator in Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode Hostage Crisis.
