The Dwuni were a species of short bipedal sentients. They had large heads with sharp-toothed mouths and eyes on stalks. Two Dwuni brothers, Blawz and Crodit, worked as enslaved miners in the mines of the planet Kessel in 10 BBY. Despite enjoying their work, they were among the liberated miners who poured out of the mines during a revolt that year. Five years later, three Dwuni were employed at a store in Ferrix City on the world Ferrix, although they were scared out of the building by the human Pre-Mor Authority Deputy Inspector Syril Karn while he was preparing an ambush on the thief Cassian Andor.

Biology and appearance

The Dwuni were a sentient species,[1] the members of which were generally half the height of an adult human.[2][3] Bipedal, they had two hands with three clawed digits each. A Dwuni's head was roughly one-quarter to one-third of its body size,[1] and it had an elongated shape with a flattened top that gradually sloped down toward their face.[2] The latter featured a large, sharp-toothed mouth with a prominent chin; a slit-shaped nose;[1] and short eye-stalks with eyes that had large black pupils. On the sides of their head the Dwuni had a pair of hearing orifices with no external ears, and their skin could be tan[2] or orange in color.[1]

Society and culture

Members of the Dwuni society identified as belonging to at least one—male—gender.[1]

By 10 BBY,[4] the Dwuni brothers Blawz and Crodit were enslaved workers in the extensive mines on the Outer Rim Territories planet Kessel[1] who had been brought there from off-world.[5] Under the supervision of the Pyke Syndicate and the Mining Guild, the mines were worked by prisoners who had generally been captured by the Galactic Empire. Equipped with portable drill units and back-mounted pneumatic compressor packs, Blawz and Crodit used their small body size to squeeze into otherwise inaccessible areas of the mines—work that, unusually, the pair enjoyed.[1] That year,[4] the pilot droid L3-37 began a revolt among the droid workforce of the mines' operations center as part of a heist she and her companions were carrying out there, which in turn led to the liberation of the enslaved miners. Afterward, Blawz and Crodit were among the workers who rushed out of the mines and onto the planet's surface.[3]

A trio of uniformed Dwuni worked at a store in Ferrix City on[2] the Outer Rim world[6] Ferrix[2] in 5 BBY.[7] When a team of Pre-Mor Authority security forces troopers under the command of the human[2] Deputy Inspector[8] Syril Karn arrived in the city in order to arrest the Ferrixian human thief Cassian Andor, in response the local citizens started making coordinated noise using metal implements[2] in order to warn the fugitive.[9] The local shops also shuttered, with the three Dwuni hiding at their place of business.[2]

Karn later entered the store while attempting to set up an ambush for Andor and, inside the premises, tried to hail any potential occupants. The Dwuni attempted to slip out through a back door unnoticed, though the startled officer shot his blaster pistol at the aliens when he noticed them, causing the agitated trio to yelp out and then chatter among themselves while they made their escape. Afterward, the three panting Dwuni were running through a narrow street where they were noticed by Andor and his contact, the Axis network leader Luthen Rael, with the two humans subsequently ambushing the still-waiting Karn at the store.[2]

Behind the scenes

The Dwuni first appeared in the 2018 Star Wars Anthology Series film Solo: A Star Wars Story.[3] The species was first identified by Pablo Hidalgo's accompanying reference book Solo: A Star Wars Story The Official Guide.[1]
