The ancients were a group of people that possessed the Echo Stone. To prevent the powerful artifact from falling into the wrong hands, the ancients his the stone inside the Dead Moon of Gothol. To further ensure the safety of the Echo Stone, the ancients encased the entire moon in a mechanism of interlocking metal plates forming a seemingly impenetrable puzzle.[1]

The Ancients were mentioned in the first issue of the 2024 comic series Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures – Echoes of Fear, which was written by George Mann and published by Dark Horse Comics[1] on September 4, 2024[2] as part of the Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project's Phase III.[1]
