Plot summary
Silent at the Auction
Poe Dameron and Finn, two members of the Resistance, find themselves on the Agriculture Hub of the planet Kamil hoping to secure some livestock to bolster the Resistance's food supply. The men observe numerous auctions of animals but are either too picky to bid or are simply outbid. After five days of this, and with nothing to show for the time investment, Dameron becomes frustrated at the feeling of being disengaged from the ongoing war with the First Order. He feels that General Leia Organa is clipping his wings while expecting him to be a better leader. Finn defends the general, reminding his friend that their assignment is fortunately relatively easy and that securing food for the Resistance is very important. The talk of food makes the men hungry, and they continue their conversation over some skewered meat. Poe reveals that he feels like he is too good for his current assignment, to which Finn reminds him that their lack of results may indicate otherwise.
At a livestock shop, the Zilkin owner's exorbitant pricing leads Dameron to argue and storm out. Upset with losing at the auctions and being unfairly priced out by retailers, the men try to strategize their next move. Finn figures Poe's people skills may help them make connections to the right vendors. Dameron volleys that thought, figuring they might be able to find where the underground livestock trading is done.
The Lucky Whistle
The Resistance operatives come across a cantina by the name of The Lucky Whistle. Poe Dameron figures a couple of hours there will be enough to gather the information they need to complete their mission. He orders an expensive beverage and informs the Kajain'sa'Nikto bartender he will tip him extra in exchange for information. Intrigued, the bartender asks what the strange patron would like to know. Poe poses as a small homesteader and asks who he could purchase from. The bartender explains that it is high-sell season, meaning there are numerous off-world eras around and that to get the information he seeks, Dameron would need to pay him even more. Dameron acquiesces, so the bartender explains how there are four major players in the livestock business: The Glymphids who sell runyips, the Zygerrians who sell nunas, the purveyors of moofs, and the Zilkins who sell robas. If the men can get in with any one of the factions, the others would trade favorably as well. The inverse, however, is also true. Fortunately, representatives of all four factions are in the bar.
Determined to succeed in their mission, the two men decide to split up to work the room. Finn inquires with the Zygerrians about nunas, but his meager request for a couple of hens and a male is far below the minimum purchasing requirement. Dameron takes a different approach with the Glymphids, engaging them in a game of chance to secure a discount. His roll is unlucky due to the dice being loaded, leading the Glymphids tripling the base price. Finn speaks with the Zilkin, but they offer him roba eyes to eat, which they claim will allow them to glimpse into his soul to see if he is worthy of selling to. This frightens Finn away. Dameron engages the sellers of moofs in a game of throwing darts, but misses, sealing their fate.
On the dance floor, the men are approached by an Octani and another four-armed individual, who mention that they saw the men's efforts and think they can help. Their uncle, Dhar Wat is selling spare parts for farm equipment, including exo lug twin injectors, which are useful in small starships. The men learn that the parts are being loaded onto a train to bring to a potential buyer, and the men see a great opportunity to obtain much needed parts for the Resistance navy. Their revised plan in mind, the men exit the cantina to find Dhar Wat.
The Train Heist
At the train station, Finn disguises himself as an average passenger while Poe Dameron dons the uniform of a crew member. They spot Dhar Wat entering the train in third class. Finn tries to pursue but is slowed by the crowd dynamics of other passengers and is pressured into sitting. Eventually, Dameron poses as a ticket-taker, and "upgrades" Finn to another car. Between third and second class, Poe gives Finn a dining uniform to wear. They move through the train cars without seeing their quarry. Once they reach private rooms, Dameron opens one to find Wat assaulting a First Order officer and joins in. Finn soon arrives, and the two quickly realize their mission just got much more complicated. Not only is the First Order on the train, they also seized the parts they were hoping to acquire so that First Order farming equipment could be repaired. Redoubling their efforts now that they hope to stop the First Order from acquiring the twin lug injectors, Poe steals the officer's uniform and they make a deal with Wat to become a supplier for the Resistance if they can reclaim the stolen parts.
Poe and Finn find out much of the First Order personnel are based at a barracks near the next stop, an advantageous position that allowed them to buy up all the livestock. Hoping the First Order only left a few guards behind with the parts, the men enter the bar car, only to be immediately outed as imposters by a group of First Order officers. They engage in a melee and flee forward in the train to get to the parts, fighting off officers as they go. In the luggage compartment, they fight off the two stormtrooper guards, and Finn finds himself joined by a Wookiee doll. They eventually secure the parts and the doll and flee to the next car, which they disconnect from the First Order's part of the train. To their fortune, that car is filled with livestock, which they successfully deliver to the Resistance. After the livestock delivery, Finn gives the Wookiee doll to his friend Rey, who loves it.
