- "Deep-fried nuna leg mmm. Delicious!"
- ―Orn Free Taa
Nunas,[1] also known as swamp turkeys,[7] were diminutive bipeds native to the swamps of the planet Naboo that spread to several other planets across the galaxy and could also be found on planets such as Tatooine,[3] Coruscant[4] and Saleucami.[8] Their meat was used to make several dishes.
Biology and appearance
- "Do you know what's interesting about the nuna, Sabata? If the leader of their pack becomes lazy from all the food they bring him…they all get together and eat him!"
"None of that is true, Respriler. Nuna don't even live in packs in the wild, and they mostly eat fruits and grains." - ―Respiler and Sabata Krill
These birds could not fly and were known for their stupidity, but were also adaptable and easy to care for. This, along with their rapid egg production, made them popular livestock animals. They were omnivores, feeding mostly on plants and, on rare occasions, fish. An average nuna could feed a family of four.[2] When nunas became angry or intimidated, they could inflate their body to a larger size.[5] Nunas were capable of growing blue and red feathers.[10] The legs of a nuna could be deep-fried to be food.[6]
History
A roast nuna
Nunas had spread across the galaxy, prized for their meat and eggs.[1] Nunas were also used as a ball in nuna-ball. The species were raised as livestock for consumption by residents of the planet Batuu.[7] Nuna Turkey Jerky, a type of jerky, could be made from the meat of nunas.[11] Alternatively, the meat could also be cooked into roast nuna.[12]
