Zombie

A zombie, also referred to as an undead, was a corpse revived through supernatural means such as Dathomirian witchcraft. Completely will-less and speechless, zombies were controlled by those who had summoned them in the first place.^[5]

History

The Clone Wars

After the deaths of Geonosian drones, brain worms reanimated their corpses, as the drones had little sense of individuality and valued the survival of their hives over the preservation of any one life. The drones' dead bodies created shambling bodies who fought for their queens. Geonosian zombies were proficient in unarmed combat, fought awkwardly and were slow-moving, relying on their numbers to swarm and destroy invaders.^[7] Through the use of the parasitic brain worms, a Geonosian queen could also reanimate and control corpses. While in search for Archduke Poggle the Lesser, the Jedi Master Luminara Unduli and trooper Buzz faced a group of dead Geonosian warriors controlled by Queen Karina the Great.^[2]

After Dathomirian Nightsisters died, their bodies were shrouded in cocoons that hung from the planet's trees.^[7] The Nightsister called Old Daka knew a magic chant that could produce zombies. During the Clone Wars, Daka used that resurrection spell to revive a group of corpses from a neighboring graveyard.^[5] The Nightsister Zombies emerged from their cocoons to aid the Nightsisters in their plight.^[7] These warriors comprised the Army of the Dead during the Battle of Dathomir, repelling the Separatist forces led by General Grievous, until Daka's death ended the spell.^[5]

Yoda encountered multiple^[8] illusions of^[9] undead Sith Warriors on the planet Moraband during his mission there. They appeared to be incapable of harming him physically.^[8]

Age of the Empire

Merrin brings dead Nightsisters as zombies to attack Cal Kestis and Taron Malicos.

Project Blackwing, an Imperial project developed before or during 18 BBY,^[10] was meant to produce immortality. However, the project accidentally produced a virus that transformed humanoids into cannibalistic undead. The virus had some ability to communicate with itself, allowing it to slowly learn how to operate machinery and weapons.^[4]

In 14 BBY, Nightsister Merrin used the Chant of Resurrection to bring dead Nightsisters back as undead to attack Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis when he visited Dathomir, as well as the fallen Jedi Taron Malicos.^[11] After Merrin joined Kestis's team, the Mantis crew, she would use the Chant of Resurrection again to bring Qeris Lar back as a zombie to distract the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.^[12]

Around 12 BBY,^[13] Mother Sssl, a Mustafarian priestess, infected dozens on Mustafar with a plague that transformed them into zombies. Sssl led her army in an attack on Fortress Vader, the castle of the Sith Lord Darth Vader, who she tried and failed to infect with the virus as well.^[14]

In 0 ABY,^[15] Jedi Padawan Luke Skywalker and rogue archaeologist Doctor Aphra encountered a horde of zombies under the influence of Abersyn symbiotes at the Citadel of Ktath'atn.^[1] Between 0 ABY and 3 ABY,^[16] an outbreak of the Blackwing virus on Dandoran infected numerous Imperial stormtroopers, transforming them into a hostile army of Undead Troopers.^[4]

According to a story told decades after the Galactic Civil War, an Imperial engineer named Aklin used a Sith ring stolen from Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine's collection to raise technicians that had died during the construction of the Death Star II to finish their assignment. The ring was later taken by the Dark Lord Darth Vader with the intent to return it to the Emperor, his Sith master, but not before the workers had completed their task.^[17]

Peridea

The Great Mothers on Peridea were able to use their magick to revive volunteers from Grand Admiral Thrawn's Night Trooper legion in order to delay Commanders Ahsoka Tano, Sabine Wren, and Ezra Bridger from interfering in their plans.^[6]
