The Rakata Prime system lay in the Unknown Regions and contained the planet Rakata Prime, the homeworld of the Rakatan species. Traveling off-world, they eventually established the Infinite Empire but supposedly ultimately went extinct. At some point between 34 ABY and 35 ABY, a refueling station orbited the planet, and the facility was visited by the chef Strono Tuggs.

Description

The Rakata Prime system was located in the Unknown Regions in grid square G-11 of the Standard Galactic Grid.[1] It contained the terrestrial[3] planet[4] Rakata Prime. Although the cosmic bramble of hyperspace anomalies known as the Galactic Barrier generally hindered the exploration of the Unknown Regions from the galaxy's more central areas, Rakata Prime was among the few navigable worlds that were discovered by rare exploratory missions, and the planet could subsequently be reached by cautiously stepped hyperspace jumps.[5]

History

Rakata Prime was home to an amphibious species[4] known as the Rakatans, who reputedly invented hyperspace travel.[2] They ventured off-world,[6] establishing the Infinite Empire[7] before supposedly going extinct.[4] The planet itself was still known in the wider galaxy[8] by some point no earlier than 9 ABY.[9]

By 33 ABY,[10] the Zabrak pirate Tryki was arrested for attempting to board a First Order cruiser near Rakata Prime.[11] The human Resistance pilot Venisa Doza and her astromech droid, Torch, also visited the planet[3] at one point by 34 ABY.[12] By sometime between that year and 35 ABY,[13] a refueling station orbited Rakata Prime, and the facility was visited by the Artiodac chef Strono Tuggs.[2]

The Rakata Prime system in the Star Wars Legends continuity

The Rakata Prime system was first mentioned in the current Star Wars canon on a map of the galaxy[14] created for Star Wars: The Force Awakens: The Visual Dictionary,[15] a reference book written by Pablo Hidalgo and published on December 18, 2015.[16] The map was initially revealed prior to the book's release through an article by Empire magazine on November 26 of the same year.[14] The star system was then identified by name in "Star Systems of the Galaxy," an appendix published with the Star Wars Galaxy Map on StarWars.com[1] on June 24, 2025. Both works were authored by Jason Fry.[17]

The star system was originally introduced in the Star Wars Legends continuity, where it first appeared as the "Star Forge system" in[18] the July 15, 2003[19] video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. A screenshot from the game showing the planet[18] Lehon,[20] and therefore its system, was featured on StarWars.com on May 2, 2003.[21] The 2006 novel Darth Bane: Path of Destruction, written by Drew Karpyshyn as the first entry in the Star Wars: Darth Bane Trilogy, first identified the system as the "Lehon system,"[22] while the 2009 reference book The Essential Atlas by Daniel Wallace and Jason Fry provided the alternative identification "Rakata Prime system."[20]

  13. Star Wars: The Ultimate Cookbook establishes that the publishing of the in-universe The Ultimate Cookbook and the culinary tour that preceded it occurred following the publishing of The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook and prior to the destruction of Kijimi. It also establishes that The Ultimate Cookbook was published following the Festival of the Ancestors that occurred during that time period. Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge: The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook further establishes that The Official Black Spire Outpost Cookbook was published concurrently with the First Order's search for the Resistance base on Batuu, which Star Wars: Timelines dates to 34 ABY. In addition, Timelines dates the Festival of the Ancestors and the destruction of Kijimi to 35 ABY, meaning the tour must have taken place between 34 ABY and 35 ABY and The Ultimate Cookbook must have been published in 35 ABY.
