The Galactic Barrier was a cosmic bramble of hyperspace anomalies that bisected the galaxy west of the Deep Core, forming the western edge of explored space and separating it from the Unknown Regions. The barrier prevented exploration of the Unknown Regions since the advent of the hyperdrive technology and the dawn of galactic civilization, save for a few worlds which could be reached with cautious hyperspace jumps, including Csilla, Ilum, and Rakata Prime. The ancient Sith and Jedi discovered ways to navigate the anomalies, but their methods were lost to time, with routes only left in artifacts such as Sith wayfinders and Jedi star compasses.[1]
