The Ongree were an amphibious sentient species native to the planet Skustell. The Jedi Pablo-Jill was a member of this species, as were Jedi Master Coleman Kcaj and the Anklebiter Brigade member Urk G'lar.

Biology and appearance

A species of bipedal, amphibian, piscine Humanoids, the Ongree had a tall, tapered cranium, with two eyestalks emerging from either side of the head, and generally had a lipless mouth in the center of the forehead, above four nostrils. This curious, unconventional positioning of their facial attributes often gave the impression that their heads were on upside-down, and could provide an Ongree with a fearsome aspect. A gathering of fleshy tendrils hung below the chin. Ongree had two arms and two legs, and had hairless, orange-yellow skin. Their hands had three digits each, including an opposable thumb.^[2]

Society and culture

According to an artist's journal compiled by the Graf Archive, many Ongree were considered even-minded individuals who could be found as diplomats and negotiators throughout the galaxy.^[2] Ongree were present within the wider galaxy by 382 BBY.^[4]

High Republic Era

In 382 BBY,^[4] at an Path compound on the planet Dalna, an Ongree male was a Path of the Open Hand member who confronted Enya Keen with a lit green lightsaber that he claimed she did not deserve as a Jedi. He taunted her as "trash", spat on the ground, and acted as a decoy while three other Path warriors attacked her with bludgeons and blasters. After Enya dodged attacks, he attempted a death blow with the lightsaber but missed, had his knee joint popped by her scissor kick, dropped the weapon while screaming in agony, and cried out when she struck his bulbous eyes.^[5] The Ongree Kunpar Vasivola^[6] was a male^[7] Jedi Master of the Jedi Order during the High Republic Era, stationed at the Valo Temple on the planet Valo.^[8]

Ruusstha Vidyarvrikt was an elderly Ongree^[9] from Dalna^[10] who served the Jedi Order 35 years prior to 231 BBY,^[11] and often sang a nursery rhyme to Jedi younglings, including Emerick Caphtor and Stellan Gios. Emerick speculated that the song was intended to terrify the younglings into behaving.^[9] In 230 BBY,^[12] one Ongree tried to flee Eiram due to the groundquakes and storms on the planet when Jedi arrived to help the fleeing citizens. ^[13] By 228 BBY,^[14] an Ongree crew member was assisted by Jordanna Sparkburn in unloading containers of protein and laser parts, during which the physical labor helped channel her stress.^[15]

Clone Wars

Pablo-Jill was an Ongree became a Jedi Knight^[2] prior to the Clone Wars.^[1] He^[16] fought in First Battle of Geonosis, jumping into the Petranaki Arena to enter combat with other Jedi.^[1] The Ongree Coleman Kcaj also served in the Jedi Order, attaining the rank of Master and sitting on the Jedi High Council.^[2]

Imperial Era

Around 10 BBY,^[17] in a bar in the Galma outskirts, a male Ongree approached the podracer Sebulba for an autograph, but the Dug kicked the Ongree into a waiter who was carrying multiple beverages, spilling them over Bossk and causing a brawl.^[18]

The Ongree Urk G'lar joined the Anklebiter Brigade, a group of children led by the human Iggs who were rebelling against the Empire on G'lar's homeworld Coruscant. G'lar was one of six members of the brigade who infiltrated the Imperial Palace to assassinate Grand Vizier Mas Amedda. Amedda offered a bargain, that if the children could liberate him from the palace by eliminating the guards outside his chamber, he would yield the Empire to the New Republic. G'lar and the group accepted and successfully rescued Amedda, and he honored his promise by representing the Empire at the signing of the Galactic Concordance peace treaty.^[19]
