Development
- "In the early Mandalorian episodes, Jon and I were figuring out our writing style and collaboration. In most story meetings we sit and talk about what we'd like to see in Star Wars. We push each other's boundaries and rally to come up with good solves. I can sit with Jon and, in an hour, come up with a whole episode. And then Jon will go off and write it. My process is a little longer. I like to ferment my ideas secretly over time. I was trying to learn a slightly different way of writing Star Wars. Jon very strongly wanted Western tropes. And Westerns have pretty clear dialogue. The gunslingers don't really say a lot. So, that was different for me."
- ―Dave Filoni[9]
The scripts of the first two episodes were written by Jon Favreau over the holiday break in December 2017, and by early February 2018, Favreau completed the first drafts of the first four episodes. Filming took place from October 1, 2018 to February 12, 2019. George Lucas visited the set on October 19, which coincidentally was Jon Favreau's birthday.[9]
Credits
- "We're having a great time working with this incredibly talented group and excited for everyone to see what we're up to."
- ―Jon Favreau, to StarWars.com in the official cast announcement[6]
